Got a counterfeit Dragonfly Salt 2 for my birthday.

At Spyderco's request, I sent the knife and all associated Amazon paperwork including the shipping box etc. I got a refund from Amazon about 10 minutes before I started this thread, told them it was counterfeit...but Spyderco wanted it and asked that I not return it.

The real lesson learned here is (And believe me I learned this lesson too, the very hard way!) don't ever ever ever let a non-knife enthusiast buy your stuff for you. My wife tried that whole "I'm getting this for him as a surprise" thing and she failed miserably at it. So, in order to get exactly what I want, she is not allowed to purchase anything for me unless I bless off on it first. So, I get no surprises, and I prefer it that way.

Good thing it was from Amazon though. She did right in that regard. Good luck with the return.

At least Spyderco shows some interest when a deal like this comes up. My Wife paid big bucks on 2 counterfeits of another company's knives and they didn't even want me to send them in at my expense.
Spyderco gets high marks again:thumbup:

I have gotten quite a few "used" knives from Amazon sold as new. After 4-5 returns in a role, I can't remember, I got a nasty email from Amazon banning my account for life. (google it, it's without warning and is for life)

I called and explained that the returns were due to "used knives" sold as "new", to which I got a reply "we only sell new knives" but I got to keep my account open.

Be careful if you've returned too many items to Amazon, they'll ban you for life.

I know about that policy, but the shear amount of stuff that my wife and I had purchased compared to returns, they would be fools to ban us. Also, I only return for defects for a replacement and pretty much do not play buyers remorse.

The Prime account is in my name.....I bought it with her CC. But she does great getting me surprises all the time. 20+ years of marriage and paying attention will do that.

Why not just buy knives from people that sell/use/love knives?

BladeHQ/Knifeworks/etc.....

I am not sure how much you saved, but it's never worth it.

It's a great idea to support the knife community, not some huge on-line box store that sells anything and everything.

Everyone likes to save a few dollars, but if you look at the big picture, we, as knife enthusiasts, need more 'knife' stores, and less stores that just happen to sell knives......

To me, this is the 'real lesson learned'

Sal stated in another thread that he felt that Spyderco's sold and shipped by Amazon were safe. Plus who says the guy or girl working in the shipping dept of said knife lover companies are....knife lovers?

And, I am supporting Spyderco by buying their knives, no matter where I choose to buy them.

The lesson learned is that Spyderco is now aware of this.

BTW, I have bought about 30 Spyderco's off Amazon.....all except this one are legit. So yeah, the money saved was worth it.

See post 22, you'll never go wrong again ;):D

Screwdriver, be sure to let us know how this works out. I've bought a lot of Spydercos and other stuff from Amazon and I've always been impressed with them. Right now I have the H1 Dragonfly on my Amazon wish list so I'd like to know how this turns out.

I buy my knives from knife people. Got several dealers who I've done business with for years. Depending on the particular dealer, I would pay $5-8 more for a knife like the OP got. To me, its not worth the time & hassle if something goes wrong. I also like supporting the little guy as much as possible and try to give them my business.

There was also a thread where someone was questioning the authenticity of a spyderco bought off amazon due to the box being closed with a circular piece of tape.

Sal replied that they were legit and that amazon requested the boxes being taped shut. Again this was with knives being sold and shipped by amazon.

Which in turn would tell me that even if amazon isn't on spyderco's dealer list they are at least getting direct shipped orders from spyderco.

as someone stated above the lack of a swedge along the spine and the lack or incorrect placement of the stamping leads to a fake.. too bad, I hate gambling with sites like amazon or ebay but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

That's why I always tell my friends off when they kept thinking that buying from the Internet will get them the best deal but only found out it's too good to be true. It's great that we have a very nice spyderco dealer "Sheares Tech" in Singapore and they have a great selection on site to choose from. We get to hold them in our hand and decide if it's suit our needs.
