well to day i got a drill press. i looked at getting it a wile ago but because it takes 220 i did not get it. but today i got it. its a table top jet with a 3Hp 220 motor. and it has a jacobs chuck. i got it for 120 not to bad. what do you think :)

Jacobs chucks are very good....I think they used to put them, or still do, on Milwakee drills. 3 HP is not too much. More Power, Baby! Just be careful, that's all.

man, that's a great deal. Jet makes good drill presses! As long as you can slow the speed down you can never have too much HP!!

the motor was swaped out and now i onley has 2 speeds. but if i get another 5 step drive pully i will have 5 speeds. the drill has a 5 step but the moter just has a double that are the same size. the chuck goes from 5/64" - 1/2". i think more power is good because its main job is going to be driling 1" finger holes in my valor knives with a 1" carbide tiped hole saw. man there pricy but mine has a removeable arbor so i can replace just the cutting head. ill post pictures of the press.

3 hp OMGoodness, that is an awful lot for a drillpress...but a good deal is a good deal...if you got 220V 1 ph or 3ph as required, fine for you.....

1" holes for your special knives is fine...get a drill press vise.....I've injured myself with smaller than that.......without a vise....

ya the motor takes 220v 1ph so no problem i will just barow power from the stove. i think i own the most powerfull bench top drill press. its actualy kinda funey to look at, the motor is allmost as big as the drill. im so useto seeing the press with 1/3hp motors and i look at mine and im like man who gave you staroides.

Make sure it can go slow enough to drill holes without ruining drill bits otherwise you will spend a bunch on bits. 3 HP motors don't come cheap. You may even think about replacing it eventually with a smaller motor and using that one to make a homemade belt grinder. That could be a pretty sweet motor for a grinder. Anyways, sounds like a great buy!!

the motor is not completley sealed. the drill has a 110v plug. could the last owner have used it with 110. the motor onley says 220v. if i plug it to 110 i would get half the speed right.

No. That would not give you half the speed. I may be possible that it is wired for 110v, but at 3hp unlikely. Look under the cover where the wire goes in it should have a diagram. If not maybe a web search will get you one. The last owner may have been a moron who wires a 220 outlet or made a cord the used 220 with a 110 plug. If one of the prongs runs sideways that is a low amperage 220 plug.

yep its a 110 plug. its onley 220 no 110 option. but i wanted to see if it would even run on 110. so i pluged it into my 15 amp wall plug and hit the switch. does any one have a motor i can have. just joaking, it ran perfect and no diming of the lights even on start up. so i grabed the chuch to see if i could stall it. i could not even slow it down, burned my hands. how could this be.
