I guess I was bittin by the Buck bug again. I got three knives in the mail today. I got a 301 with I think bone, an older 112 with no nail nick, and a 639.
Would anyone have any info on the 301. I did a search, but did not find much info. I thought I would share some pics.
I'm no Buck expert, but I think the nail nick like what you have is really a Buck made knife. My old 301 I bought in 1967 at an army PX was made by Camillus and it had the long nail nick. I had it at the Blade show in Knoxville in 1987 showed it to Chuck Jr., and he said it was a Camillus.
I think that more regular nick like yours is 80's or later San Diego Buck. Either way, its a darn nice knife!
Thanks for the info and kind words Jacknife. I already have my stones out ready to put my edge on the 639. The stockman had good grinds to the blades, so it went straight in my pocket. I think I may need to touch up the edge on the strop.
Just got off the phone with someone at Buck. It was made in 1990, with brown bone scales and no shield. He could not confim if it was just for SMKW. Thanks for all the help guys.
Now I am having trouble talking myself into EDC this bad boy. I have plenty of great pocket knives that I have already used, there is just something about a new (to me) knife that screams carry me.
