Got a few questions on this handle remodel job

West system epoxy is clear and thin. You only need to brush on a little bit. I use it on ito wrap for tanto. Works great. If your cord is white you need the mirror clear version or it will be visible. For dark cord the regular stuff is fine.
 
That sure touch stuff that Taz mentioned is great! If you can get some of that, use it!
Great grip, some shock absorption, looks cool, no real downside really...

Wow. That looks wonderful. I love the grain pattern. And I bet the handle vibration is null when using on big choppers.
 
I can't say for certain, but I do have a hatchet I'm the works that is going to have a handle made from this stuff... I'll find out then.
 
The guard you want is called a Turk's head knot. There are some YouTube tutorials. It's bloody annoying as you have to watch it about 10 times to follow and get it right, but they look good and you can soak it in resin also.
