I got a coote grinder. After building a table an getting it set up, I started to grind. My first one was a small neck knife made from titanium. I have made one knife before and it was on a hf 1x30. So needless to say I am very new.

I started with a 40 grit, I then moved to a 80 and then tried to go to a 120. I ran into a issue with the 120 belt. They are 120 zirconia belts from super grit. They will not run straight. When I turn the machine on they run lop sided. When I turn the machine off part of the belt will be hanging of the 10" wheel. All my other belts ran fine. Any ideas on this?

Off topic, below is a couple pictures of the 2 I ground today. The top one is titanium an is the first one I ground. I had a lot of trouble keeping the grind line straight as you can see. Not to happy with it but I'm just getting started in this hobby. I'll probly throw some jade g10 on it after I anodize. The next one is also a neck knife made from 154cm. Not sure what I'll do for heat treat on this, I found a company locally that does heat treat so I am thinking about giving them a shot. Let me know what you think fella's...

I have no idea as to your grinder question, but I will say that it looks like you're off to a mighty fine start with it. Congrats!

I've had bad belts before, even in groups. If all of your other belts but the 120's are running fine......

Take a very close look at those belts and measure the width in several places. They may just be defects.

There should be a way to adjust the tracking on your grinder. I find that with most all different brands of belts i need to adjust. Look for a screw/bolt that's near the top wheel of the grinder. Turning it one way or another will balance out the tracking. Check in the grinders manual if you need help locating the screw/bolt.

I'm thinking they must have been part of a bad batch because both 120's are bad. I just wanted to make sure it didn't have to do with the grit for some reason. I'll just have to order a couple more. Thanks for the help.

I'm suggesting you try a better brand such as 3M or Norton. I believe your grinding looks great for a start. I suggest as well, getting some inexpensive steel - non carbon - and use it for some trials. Frank
