The wife, and I went to the Reno Gun & Knife Show today, and while there stopped by a knife dealer I have been buying from for over 10 years, and he had one of the Aftermaths in his display case. He handed to me, and asked what I thought as he had just got it in this week. Well I left with it!! The wife, and I were so impressed with it, and when the wife handled it she said "WOW that is cool we got to have it to go with the Camillus Maxx we have at home". I have 3 of Darrel Ralph's customs, and the Maxx, and had handled the custom version of the Aftermath, and liked it but was at another knife show at that time, and had already spent all my funds on other customs so had to pass on it.
When I handled the Camillus Aftermath today it was so close to the custom I could not believe it with the Robo mechanism, and of course different markings on the D2 blade instead of the S30V. It worked so smooth, and felt just like the custom model that I told the dealer I'll take it, and with the wife's blessing too I might add:D
May seem a little pricey but compared to the custom version I think it was worth every penny due to the quality, and workmanship.
I like my Cuda Maxx but this Aftermath is awesome!!!!
I already have a Camillus Dominator on order from a dealer who advertises on these forums(TDE), and now am excited to get it especially if it is even close to the quality, and workmanship of the Aftermath.
Great job Darrel Ralph, and Camillus!!!:D

Man, you got it lucky..."Wow that is cool, we got to have it to go with the Camillus Maxx we have at home".   Do you realize just how many guys you made jealous with that?!:D Your wife is definately a keeper. Mine at least tolerates and maybe understands my obsession with knives, and even appreciates the knives that I have given her... but I seriously doubt that she would ever INSIST that I take a $300+ knife home! Anyways, enough jealous ramblings... thanks for your mini review on how it compares with the custom version. Let us know how you like it after carrying her for a few months.

Yes I am very lucky to have a wife like that. We have been married almost 20 years, and the good thing is she is a knife knut also, and has her own collection of productions, and customs. In fact while at the show she got 3 new slipjoints that she wanted. She usually carries a LCC/D/A, and Strider AR(she is an LEO) but wants to have some slipjoints in her collection, and feel I will also lose the Aftermath before it is over as she said she was going to take to work, and show it off to some of the officers. They are used to her, and call her the knife guru:)
When she hit the release to open the Aftermath she went "whoa":)what action!!
It has even a better edge on it than the Cuda Maxx, and with the slight recurve cuts like crazy.
We'll see if it gets any smoother after we "both" carry it some, and even if it doesn't it is still awesome.

I agree with LarryLuana. I got a CUDA Aftermath a few days ago. It’s a great knife!
Design – excellent
Materials – excellent
Fit and finish – excellent
Blade centering – excellent
Grind lines – excellent
Edge – excellent
Opening action – excellent
Closing detent – excellent
Lock – excellent
Blade play – excellent
What more can I say? The knife is a little pricey (US $329) for a production knife, but I think it’s worth it. I can’t imagine the custom version being much better. Camillus and Darrel Ralph have done a really good job. I hope Camillus can keep up this level of quality control. I bought my Aftermath from True North Knives. I think Neil has a few left.

Right now, I couldn't care about the Aftermath, but where did you first meet your wife? :D
Glad to hear that you like the Aftermath ;)

I got mine about a week ago and my wife thinks that it is UGLY. Mechanically I think it is a great knife and the workmanship is GREAT, however, I am not so sure I like the Fantasy like scoll work on the slabs. I think a plain handle would have suited me just fine.
After all that said I still think the knife is a great example of the work done at Camillus and very much like the assisted opening feature. Now I am waiting for me Cuda Maxx 5.5 to arrive next week
:p :p :p

To answer your question on where I found her, I was introduced to her by a friend, and when I saw she had a Buck 110 in a belt sheath on her I thought "now that is my kind of woman", and was right after almost 20 years have not regretted it, and both our knife collections have grown so much I had to buy a large safe awhile back, and I am loving every minute of it :D
muzzleup- I thought about the looks of it with flame overlays but remembered last year when I saw, and handled the Darrel Ralph custom versions with, and without the overlays I liked the plain version less, and since then have adjusted to like the flame version all the more, but of course is personal preference, and Luana says the flame overlay is what sets it off, and of course the Robo Assist.
Actually Ookpik gave a better mini-review than I but have not had mine long enough to really compare it with the Cuda Maxx but do know for sure like the thicker handle slabs, and the Robo Assist, and the slight recurve is just right as I don't care for a radical recurve as like most say is harder to sharpen.
As posted above most who have got them are very pleased with them, and a limited few like with the Cuda Maxx felt it is too big a knife. I don't think it is too big but of course I am used the length of the Cuda Maxx, and was prepared for the size of the Aftermath, and I like big folders anyway having got or had Cold Steel large folders, REKAT Sifu, and have a Phil Boguszewski custom with 4 1/2" blade on order. Don't get me wrong as I have smaller knives also, guess I just like knives enough that want to carry all sizes in my collection. Right knife length for the right situation:)
Having own customs, productions of all types I feel bang for the buck the Aftermath is a great value.
Enough said :D

Sorry for the hijack, but you're one lucky man!
I've seen the pics on the Aftermath, and it looks pretty darn cool.

i wish they would make a smaller version with a 3.5 inch blade. i really like the design of the knife but it's just too big for me

Glad you are loving it, we can't wait for the Dominator either!
Paul:)

First, keep in mind that most people can inertial-open any knife faster than any auto or assisted-opener on the market.

Given that, I'd still say the Aftermath is quick. It doesn't snap open hard enough that you feel like it's going to fly out of your hand. It does open fast enough that the motion is right on the edge of visual perception. I think it's fairly comparable to my Kershaw Boa and slower than my Kershaw Chive.

Bob,
We have enough power on tap with the ROBO mechanism to make it as fast as we want, but with that 5.5" bowie blade, if we go too fast, it is really hard to hold onto:rolleyes:

The DOMINATOR, whichh is gettting VERY close to shipping;) which has a more "sensible" blade lenght, is VERY fast indeed:D

I have most of the "other":)speed assist knives, and also think the speed is about in the middle. Like Will says with the heft of the knife any faster, and it would be uncontrolable.
To me it is not the speed but the "toy factor" I like about it, kinda like havng a legal auto knife.
Luana took it down to the station(she is LEO), and a bunch of the officers handled it, and they all got excited about it, and she had a heck of a time getting it back, had drool all over it :D.
I really like my Cuda Maxx, and it flicks open very smoothly but the Aftermath is also fun, and works with authority like a auto knife.
I am hyped about the Dominator too, as a more fun toy but more usable due top it's size.

Larry

Will: I don't doubt you could make it faster. :D I think the current speed is plenty fast for any purpose I can imagine.
