Got a new Farmer

I just received this yesterday from Tim at felinevet and couldn't be happier! :D About 6 months ago, after reading so much about the Farmer, I decided to try one - been EDC'ing a blue Farmer ever since. While I've come to love the utility and three-layer thickness of the Farmer, there was "something" that just didn't seem right to me. Now don't get me wrong - the blue Farmer is a beautiful knife - but I guess I'm just old enough (and opinionated enough) to think that a SAK should be RED. Or silver alox. Or both red and alox. ;)

Anyway, after grinding off the pesky (my opinion again) keyring stud, I dropped this jewel in my pocket - RF. LF carries a Rambler (red ;)) hooked to a Fenix EO1. The watch pocket carries the traditional slippie of the day.

Finally, if you're not familiar with felinevet, check it out. Great selection of SAK's - new and used and "hard to find" ones - great service and you'll be supporting a great cause!

Wow ..... I just re-read this and I really came across as an ole' curmudgeon! While I personally happen to like red, or silver alox, or a combination of the two, I can see it would be a pretty boring SAK-world if that's all that was offered.

WOW!! What a great knife. I really like it in red.

I got the silver alox Farmer a week or two ago but now "THANKS TO YOU" I've got to send off for a red one.

Thanks for the post.

very well said and congrats coyote711!

and felinvet is my favorite Sak&Catman too! ;)

Ed, "YOU'RE WELCOME"! ;) Just something about RED .....

Dantor, this has been the first time I've dealt with felinevet, but I'm thinking I'll make it my "go to" place for any future SAK purchases. We adopted a kitten from the local animal shelter a few years back and she's now my "best friend"!!!

Great Knife - I carry a silver Alox on occasion - I missed out on a blue alox and my son-in-law got the red one! I'm glad to hear you've met up with Tim at Felinevet.... anyone who cares about cats is ok with me - My wife and I have two who are on their third home -and last!
Peace
Revvie

i wish i got the blue farmer... already have the red and silver with several back up... the alox 93mm is very2 addicting!

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!

Tim/Felinevet is excellent!

I love the way the anodizing wears off the high points on the colored Alox models.

Thanks for the recent posts & pics, guys! I'm only sorry that it took me so long to "discover" Tim/Felinevet.

I love the looks of the well worn red Pioneers that get posted around here from time to time. Probably take years for my Farmer to develop that much character. I carried my blue Farmer for approx. 6 months and I have to look pretty closely to see the beginnings of its "character" -- it's there, but at a casual glance it still looks almost new. ;)

How did you go about grinding the key ring stud off? Been thinking about doing it. Just not all that confident I won't mess up the knife.

Just a hand file. I used the regular flat surface until it was ground down close to the handles, of course. After that you need to use the edge of the file to avoid scratching/grinding the handles themselves. Be careful at this step - use your thumb or finger as a "guide" for the file to rub against, and to keep the file from filing the handle. I imagine it wouldn't be quite as noticeable on silver alox as on the colored alox if you did happen to accidentally file on the handle edge. The steel of the keyring stud is quite soft and files easily.

You can, in addition, apply a couple of layers of narrow duct tape strips to the areas surrounding the piece being removed. Then, if the file does slip it's not likely to make contact with the alox surface.

I had a red Farmer for years, till it was stolen. Loved that knife.

Just picked up a silver alox Pioneer Harvester. I prefer the small blade on the harvester, but wish it had the lanyard ring of the Farmer.

Just picked up my first farmer ever last week and, WOW... I love this freaking knife. I can't believe I waited so long to get one.

Did you really have to do this Keith?=
I´m on a tight budget as it is:(
And you're not making things any easier for me this way:grumpy:

Nah..... just kidding:D
Great knife.
Congrats and enjoy:thumbup:

Arend, how did you know??? :D The express intent of this whole thread is to convince YOU to get a RED FARMER (!) while they're still available!!!

That's OK ..... you can thank me later!

Just kidding ..... sort of! ;)

Thanks for the comments! :)

I love Swiss army knives but this post seems to be at least as much about felinevet as it is about swiss army knives. If you want to discuss felinevet here, perhaps you could respond to the following (I'd also like to hear felinevet's responses though in the past he hasn't responded to such questions directly.):

Is felinevet a dealer member on Bladeforums?
How much of the money from felinevet's sales goes to SOSAK/Multitool.org/SAKWIKI/Etc or other sites?
Are you a member of those sites?
Has felinevet ever bought and resold swiss army knives from Amazon or elsewhere?
Has felinevet ever used images or material from Bladeforums (without the permission of the authors) to sell swiss army knives elsewhere?
Has felinevet ever attacked anyone in the community?

I'm a dog owner and donate to the human society and other pet related charities as well as other non pet related charities. None of them have attacked me or given money to websites that do. ;-)

Gentlemen. Do we have a problem here? I can understand mentioning a good source, but is this a FEEDBACK thread or a Multitool thread? And I can understand mentioning how this might be inappropriate, but that would be better done with the Report Post function, rather than embitter the thread.

Behave yourselves or my red Alox Farmer will take the necessary action ...
