I know you guys are gunna yell at me but... it came down to the Benchmade Vex or the Spyderco Delica and i wish they could combine them! I like the delica blade steel but i like the benchmade overall design. The delica just felt so cheap and i like heavyish but nice looking knives. The blade steel on the delica is VG-10 and the one on the vex is 8cr14mov. tell me i did good! i bought the vex... 60$

pretty good deal. they are going on ebay for $37 and shipping. If you use the knife will more than pay for itself many times over.

Yeah. I was more so looking for a knife with
A) Hard blade steel so it holds its edge longer
B) A decent handle, i like aluminum or stainless steel but i can live with G-10
C) I dislike light knives, so a decent heavy knife is OK just not a Buck 110 type. I love my 110 but its like a brick.

So, how does the 8Cr14MoV stand up to day to day chores as far as keeping an edge for a while? And, whats so good about VG-10?

Return it for the Delica... the VG-10 will treat you better for edge retention. What are you going to be doing with it?

Whittling, opening boxes at home or envelopes, cutting fishing line. I mean i don't use a knife every single day, whittling takes the most out of the knife.

For what you're going to use it for the Vex will be fine for a long time. Enjoy your new knife.

I know what you mean by "light" knives. l've never been very fond of Spydercos because many of them feel like those cheap Chinese knives you grab out of a bowl at the local hardware store. (They are anything but cheap, but their blade configurations and punchout holes just turn me off.)

About the steels, don't worry too much about edge retention or you'll go blind.

yeah, thats exactly it! The little knives on the chains... yup. I dont so much mind the holes, but the blade shapes are weird and they just seem like odd knives. The blade shape also really gets to you when you have to reach into your pocket as far as rubbing your hand is concerned. That delica just felt like i could have made it in an injection molding machine at school.

Heres some quick pics i took

I'm more of a Spyderco fan myself, especially when comparing to the BM Red Class, but the Vex looks like a great knife. You couldn't have gone wrong either way and it always comes down to personal preference.

Does G-10 ever wear out, the texture and stuff or lose its color? Also, does the BP coating on the blade wear off if you cut through those stupid plastic packages that they store toys in?

Both knives are nice, but I think most members here would ahve chosen a delica over the Vex...Just because of the VG-10 alone...Its a great steel, but you get what you like, whats a great steel going to do for you on a knife that you don't like using...So its good you bought what you like, and as far as edge retention goes...If your not using your knife too much, who cares...Just make sure you know how to sharpen properly, thats all...The BM ves is a good knfie for the money, I like the BM red class knives...I had a monochrome a while back...Better than most gerbers in the same price range...but these days knives are getting more affordable, like the new Byrd line by Spyderco...So alot more nice knives to choose from in the lower price ranges these days, whihc is great for noobies...Im sure you will love your Vex! Congrats on the new knife!
