Hey guys how are yah

I got a new Sebbie regular large bg42 dual thumbstud a few months ago and I love this darn thing. I really do, but I have one slight problem.

I have a strider pt and the clip on the strider is super strong and their is no way in heck this knife is gonna come out of the pocket unless I use a substantial amount of force.

The Sebenza on the other hand I worry about every once in a while, because the clip isn't as tight as it should be imo and I really do not want to lose this knife. Is there a different stronger clip for a Sebenza that really hugs the pocket. The Sebenza was made in 1998 and ever since that time has the clip changed for the better or is the same design. Should I just stop worrying and bend the clip.

any advise would be helpful

take care
aj

p.s Please nothing about strider and Sebenza. The only reason I compared both is I carry them both together as an edc. Like Sal says all good just different.

You could order a new clip from C.R. knives .

That isn't what he asked.

I just bought the new large Sebenza and the pocket clip isn't as strong as my other folders. I think it's a bit weak so it's probably how the are designed. Even on the little note that comes with the knife it suggests that you can buy a leather sheath from them. My suggestion is buy a belt sheath. I use the large one from Benchmade it's only like 7 bucks.

Most but not all BG sebbies have the old straight clip. If so, order a double humped one from CRK. That second hump grabs great IMHO

I've also heard complaints about Sebenza clips being too tight. Some of this may be individual perception, the thickness of the material it's clipped to, or the actual spacing on the clip.

I've had old and new style clips and both work fine.

You can easily fix the clip to suit you by removing the clip, bending it ever so slightly the way you want it, and replacing it. Be careful with the screw, use steady pressure to remove and replace it, so you don't strip the threads. I wrap the clip with a piece of cloth, so I don't scratch it with the pliers I use to bend it.

I agree the newer double hump clip seems more secure than my older BG42 classic clip.Though when I carry a sebbie its in a sheath made by G2,I haven't lost a sebbie yet.

I prefer the newer clip, I think it does a better job.

You could always contact someone like STR who could probably custom make you a clip.

Weird, I have a BG-42 with the new style clip. Made in 2001 though, that's probably when they switched.

I find the double hump clips to be very secure. But I tend to wear thicker fabric trousers. If I am wearing a suit, I don't clip a knife in my pocket.

I would contact Vess in Toronto. He makes awesome sheaths that fit snugly and you never have to worry about the clip again. A BG42 is a very collectible Seb and I would be afraid of it slipping out of my pocket.

If you google Vess or go to his store on ebay you can pick one up easily. I got horizontal cross draw sheaths from him and they are very discrete.

My $0.02 for today.

Thanks guys for all the advise eh it's very much appreciated. I just went to the CRK website and it has the same clip listed which is already on my sebenza. Why do you guys call it double humps I only see one hump. Never thought I would ever say that in this lifetime lol.

Thanks esav I may try that method if nothing else pans out. Dave I think I should contact STR and see what he could do.

Richard I didn't even think about vess and they are pretty close. I love clipping it to my pocket, but i might go grab a sheath from them, because I doubt very much I will ever find another one of these at the price I paid for it. My favourite Edc by far but it might get bumped if i ever find a lochsa :p

take care guys and appreciate the advise

Just because "double humps" makes me :D, thats why I say double humps.

It more like "two points of retention," and now thats just not as fun. ;)

:p

Ya AJ, just take it off and bend it a bit. The original clip had one hump (or maybe no humps, depending on how you look at it), the new one has one "dip" in the middle, making the space on either side a "hump" (at least thats how I look at it).

Anyway, I have both kinds and both are plenty tight. Just bend it a little though, if you go too far it can press on the lock bar and make the blade harder to open and shut.

Just bend the clip to suit your purpose.

There is way too much potential variation in substrate thickness for CRK to cover all the bases. You'd really need an adjustable clip to do that, which I think would be a cure worse than the disease.

Without getting out the caliper, I'd say the pockets in my old Patagonia trunk shorts are probably 1/5 the thickness of those in my Carhartts. A seasonal adjustment is all that's needed.

If you have several knives in EDC rotation, you may want to consider pairing certain knives with certain pants.

Put the strider clip on the Sebenza! Sorry, someone had to say it. IMO my strider PT clip is too tight. The Sebbie clip is perfect. See the double hump clip.

Another way to make them a bit grabbier is to buy some heat shrink tubing from Radio Shack or Advance Auto. PIck a diameter that fits faairly snug, trim to the length you want and shrink it with a blow drier. It makes it easier to do if you remove the clip first. I think the new double hump is fine but I have done this on some Spydercos.

Thanks for the mention guys and yes I am probably a bit biased about the
clip verses the sheath carry. I usually carry several knives on me at any
given moment, and one is usually clipped to my pocket, lately it's the David
Boye Cobalt folder, which has a similar dent in the clip for more retention.
That clip seems to work well, but I am not much of a clip lover, as they tend
to scrape things that you most likely don't need scraped at the time, like
a steering wheel, or parts of your cars exterior, and on other knives the clip
can get caught up and sprung out too far.

So, for me a sheath is handy and you being in Canada,
Vess is a great choice to check out as he has some Sebbies in his stable to
be able to make a sheath for you without you having to send your knife.

here is some contact info for Vess;
Vess, known on the forums as Vess...he also hails from Canada...
His Email
His Web page

There are several other leather guys listed in this thread

Plus, the knife just feels better in the hand without the clip contacting
your palm, just my opinon on that, but as already mentioned, I am a bit biased ;)
Here's a vertical sheath I made for Bobby G a while back, a two toned bit that
has what I call dragon scales embossing, tricky to do actually with the two toned
bit.
