Before you get into fabbing up an alternate clip, try bending the OE piece. You should definitely be able to make it adequately secure... I never worry about mine.
Relative to the Strider clip, the problems you may have with the CRK clip are variation in pocket thickness and damage to the pocket from a tightened clip. These would be due to the fact that the CRK design utilizes a smaller bearing surface.
I tend to set my CRK clips fairly tight, and not worry too much about abrading my pocket seams. Once the seam gets worn in, the rate of deterioration slows down a good bit. So it's pretty practical for the more blue-collar work environment, maybe less so for the more white-collar environment. Multiple knives with different clip adjustments is one approach there, or just dress down in the office if you can.
All of this said, it would certainly be possible to design a wider clip. Or you could just go the sheath route. Personally, I really like the convenience of the clip when Im in more of a working environment.
