Some people like it, some people hate it, I received the poor man's Endura today, the Cara2 with the FRN handles. I'm really liking this knife a lot. Edge geometry was beautiful with no signs of an uneven grind.

The only part I'm not crazy about is how stiff it is to open. It's not gritty, just stiff. I tried to adjust the pivot screw, but the T6 torx bit is too small, and the T7 is too big, leaving me out of options for that. So I need to know if anyone has some advice for taking some of the stiffness out of the opening, since it's interfering with the ziptie mod.

Get a more expensive set of torx drivers because the cheap ones often fit in between the sizes, and then you should be able to adjust it. Oil could also help, but I'd try adjusting it first because oil can attract lint and dust etc.

I've tried few different torx sets and though it's one of the cheaper sets the husky is a great value with properly sized bits! Congrats on the knife, know your hooked! I bet your already thinking about your next!

That's where this gets really odd. The T6 driver I have was a perfect fit for the clip screws to my Tenacious.

Actually I do. I'm looking at the Meadowlark, Robin, and Finch models next, since they're the poor man's equivalent of the Delica, Dragonfly, and Ladybug.

Nice! I have my caracara frn w me now by coincidence. I think the robin is great too. I think people tend to overlook the Byrd lineup cuz they'r from China, but their fantastic knives, I've had 3 now, all perfect: caracara and Robyn frn + g-10. The g-10 Robyn I had had a great f&f and even these little cutouts in the back spacer that gave it a little extra flair! Such quality...such a deal...brings a tear to my eye...

Ahem, sorry. Clean it out, take it apart if necessary and then oil it. There will always be some opposing force when opening cuz its a back lock. as long as it doesn't feel gritty you're probably good.

If you want something smoother maybe consider a liner lock. Tenacious etc. would be great. I have a...dang it, an ambivalence? The little one that starts w "A". Its also great f&f and pretty smooth.

Be wary of the cheaper torx sets. I bought this set. Thought it be fine. But the bits aren't hardened.

The tip sheared off one on a tight clip screw. I ended up buying another set. This one has good hardened bits. I believe the Benchmade blue set would be great too.

I had the same kobalt and it was garbage. Also had the cheaper Husky with chrome plated bits and gladly disposed of it. Believe me I've been through many! I have the boker and don't like how stubby it is, you can't see what your working on!

I really only chose Böker because the Benchmade was out of stock at the time of my order. I figured I could use the bits in any driver I wanted.

I have sheared the tip off of one of my Benchmade torx :( Wondering what to get next. Those German ones look nice…

I am a fan of the Husky set pictured above as well.

I have a Wiha set, as well, but the Husky lives with my knife maintenance gear, and I have no reservations using it on any of my knives. The bits are nicely hardened, and I have yet to see any signs of wear on them, or caused any problems with fasteners. Believe me, I have no problem spending money on nice tools, but his Husky set is a bargain.

Wiha is good.

Flush the pivot with isopropyl alcohol and work the blade. Wipe it down and let it dry. Then apply a small amount of the lubricant of your choice. I like one drop of mineral oil from the pharmacy.

When I first saw the Byrds I didn't know anything about them, I thought they were poor counterfeit knives. I feel stupid now.

Is it only the G10 handled ones that have the cut outs on the back spacer? Mine's the FRN version and the back spacer is the same material, and has no cut outs.

So that's it. Well hopefully some cleaning and screw adjustment will take out some of the opposing force and make opening easier.

The Tenacious was my first Spyrdero knife. It saw a fair bit of use in its short time with me.

Alright now that's just freaky. I bought a Wiha torx driver in T6 earlier this morning, without having ever heard the name.

Usually it'll smooth out with use. Try spraying some WD40 into the pivot & lockbar, open/close many times, it might help working out the factory gunk. Also try wash the entire area with liquid soap, work the open/close under running water (hot/warm preferable), be careful with slippery grip. Dry & repeat WD 40. Do this several times.

I used that method to expedite smoothing when I didn't have the bits yet, and usually it'd work.

The frn versions don't use a backspacer, the scales come all the way around the back. I would assume a g-10 cara cara would have the little cutouts, but can technically only speak for the robyn.
