Let me know what you think of the designs I've linked, one is a Wharncliffe version of the other. I was able to pick up a 1/8"x1.5"x9" piece of MagnaCut from Pops (actually was only 8 13/16" long so I do have to adjust my pattern). I've also created a recurve version that looks pretty good as well. Let me know especially what you think of the handle design.

Thanks,

I'm not sold on the abrupt dip on the top of the handle, and I'd smooth out the transition between the two arcs on the bottom of the handle. For what it's worth

I would suggest looking at some knife photos and redesigning those. They have handle and blade angle issues. The Wharnie would be OK with the handle make more comfortable.
With the exception of the Wharnie they have the EXACT same handle and blade angles as a VERY popular knife... Granted it is a folding knife that I particularly like that I have redesigned the shapes of, not the angles. The Wharnie blade angle was changed to add knuckle clearance when cutting flat.

I'm not married to the designs however and I do have issues with the handle design.

Thanks Stacy,
Steve

I agree with Lorien Lorien , that dip before the blade disrupts the "flow" of the knife and kinda makes it look... I dunno, fantasy-esque?

All of those blade designs look much better! I especially like 3,4 and 5. Try looking down across your drawings at a foreshortened angle. Number 2 might be a bit weak at the tip...

Wharncliffe's do tend to be weaker at the tip than other designs but the blade shape excells at many things including working with wood. I certainly wouldn't consider using a steel that wasn't very tough for something like that but I believe MagnaCut should handle it. The Sheeps foot (3), lambs foot (4) and the recurve (5) certainly have a much more robust tip. And the handle to blade angles do seem to be better for 2,3,4 and 5 than for 1.

Would you suggest bringing the blade tip up for #1? That is the main difference I see between them.

I reached out to Pops as my steel was shorter than it was advertised to be, enough that I had to shrink my design and I simply wanted to let them know, they insisted on replacing the piece with one that is the advertised length so this project is on .hold until the new piece arrives. I will continue to work on the design however and update this post.

Just a thought coming from my personal opinion and experience. A lot of people who are starting out and who love knives have a background with high end folders. We look at those folders and the shapes and think about how we wish there were different and how we wish they would feel. The difference is that many of the design choices with a folder are made because it needs to fold. The can look odd in a fixed blade and the design choice may not be the best. Just as a point that I think people are trying to point out to you is that the base of the blade where it is going to take the most strain you have notched it. That's going to look odd as well. It will also be hard to get in there and clean everything up nice. The blade shapes aren't bad if you do like Natlik showed and smooth out that line. Try it I bet you prefer it. Grab some thin wood and just make a mockup by glueing on some blocks for scales. I bet you prefer it. You can always take more off if you still want to change. Going through the shop thread and taking screenshots of stuff you like is a great way to make nicer stuff. I'm not going to show my first stuff and I wish I had known better where to look for inspiration.

I agree with most everything you said however I've got particular user on ignore due to the noise he tends to cause. Wife has a Cricut and has been cutting out the patterns for me, I get it. Here are the updated models I have currently.

I might do a couple of things different but that's me. I think you will like those better. The recurves might be a bit challenging to grind. I find that if I shade in the handle and some of the features it's easier to visualize.
