I've been looking for one of these bad boys for awhile, and I found one at a good price on good old Ebay. I got the plain edge version and while I have no regrets Im so impressed with this knife I already want a serrated version. I should mention that mine is the cheaper stainless version but still very impressive!!! Im a big fan of the compression lock as found on my para and salsa, but the frame version on this knife is so smooth....It really needs to be felt to be appreciated. I would compare the opening smoothness to that of my ball lock D'allara. The knife is thin yet affords a good solid puurchase in your hand, wonderfully designed handle shape (for my large hands). Im also appreciate the "cobra hood" I understand its not spyderco's most popular feature but on this knife it just fits, and it gives your thumb a nice pressure pad for aggressive cutting. Anyway, I just wanted to throw that little initail impression out there for anyone who may be thinking about getting one of these great knives. Go for it!

how much did you spend getting one from ebay? I'm looking for one too, love that handle integrated lock!

Want to trade your PE for my SE ATR? Got the SE version several months ago. It's a great knife, smooth action and very solid lock, but I don't like the SE. Wish I had picked up one in PE as well, it would definitely be one of my main EDC knives.

To answer both questions I paid 97.00 for the knife and 3.00 for the kife to be shipped from NC to Ohio. I purchased the knife from an Ebay store called "trailyard" this was my first time using this store, but I must say the knife showed up brand new in the box. Infact the knife was even gift wrapped in silver wrapping paper. The good news is that they still have 4 PE versions available and 5 SE versions available. You can go direct to their store on ebay or you can just search ebay for "spyderco ATR" and they will pop up.
As far as trading...I love the PE version, I just wish I had the SE version to go with it. Thanks though

ATR's are simply the best thing I have ever seen/used by Spyderco. they are smoother opening and closing than anything else I've owned. At least as overbuilt as some of the big Buck folders ( maybe more). Really - the only thing I'm not crazy about on this knife is the clip - but as long as STR's willing to work his magic on 'em - that's not a big deal.

I have been EDC'ing a Black SS PE ATR since they were released it's a great knife

i have an ATR or 2 lol (2 PE ti, 1 SE ti, 1 PE SS) and i really like them, my fav spydie no doubt about it, its the only production knife in my edc rotation.

Congrats,
I have couple of SS ATR PE. It is very solid knife with great ergos, the lock is smooth like butter.

Thanks Streicher and congrats! I got one too in PE, and just started carrying it.

The SS ATR is still cheap on eBay. I had a plain edge model for sometime and picked up a serrated for 80 bucks, shipped the other week. It's something of a sleeper for a discontinued Spydie. I look for that to change in the next year or so. Once the ones floating around are bought up they will go up just like all the rest.

i really prefer the Ti to the SS, though the SS aint bad. why? not so many holes for one, imho the lock up is better two. also like the S30V.

lotsa folks complained about the ATR pocket clip, and the 'hood, 2 things i really liked about the knife. go figure, lol.

i really do like the ATR, thru the yrs i bet i have had 50 or 60 spydies, and the ATR is sure my fav of them all, hands down, a great knife.

like i said, its the only production in my rotation.

have had my 3 Ti ATR's a while now, got 'em back when they were running ~ $200 and i paid less than that for them thru the forums, swapped a EKI commander for one of 'em.

I have just accepted the modele titanium. it is fantastic, very smooth in the opening and finishing is perfect. My best spydie at this day ( soory for translation..)
