Got any knife rules?

1. U.S.A. made unless I have a reason to want a knife made elsewhere, I haven't yet.

2. Not too small. Must be able to hold the handle.

3. Must be a knife I will use.

4. Sell those that don't fit the rules.

I have a few knives to sell.

Stay within budget as to maintain domestic tranquility !

Try hard to buy only that which adds something substantially different and better to the fold , rather than just something that's a good deal and feeds the addiction to acquire .

No clones or cheap knives (except those given to me as gifts by my son!)
Carry what I buy, all of them no matter price

The fundamental design has to be good for its intended context of use, and the value it offers has to be fair or better. This means I commonly find myself buying time-tested traditional designs of an economy nature, as these tend to be working knives made to provide appropriate functionality at a price point cheap enough that breaking it, losing it, or using it up are of little consequence.

I’ll rarely use a knife to cut paper or cardboard... I’ll do it if necessary but only if I have to, not to test sharpness. Now a stick or a scrap of stiff leather I’ll whittle on just because it’s there, but not paper. My favorite sharpness test is actually plastic like a grocery bag or wrapping on paper towel packaging...when you can cut long thin strips right next to each other without the blade snagging or ripping the plastic, it’s sharp.

Above all the knife should be kept clean.
& get my knives organized and properly stowed.
No country limits.

Discover what works and what doesn’t work for me, then go with that. Sell or gift my failed explorations.

1, Always have a knife in your pocket. Goes in your pocket when you pull on your pants. No excuses, as long as it's legal to carry.
2. Made in USA (SAK's are the only exception)

My rules....
1) unless I'm not wearing pants, I have at least one knife
2) unless your name is on this list (3 names), you cannot use my knife

I've tried neck knives - don't like that carry method - if I find myself needing to cut something while I'm in the shower, I decide if I can use a razor... if not, my pants are on the floor, just a few steps away.

- If a task to be done requires a knife but cannot be managed with a knife I already own, buy a suitable knife.
- Barring poorly made knives, knockoffs or clones, knives from all over the world can be considered for purchase.
- Only buy knives from reputable dealers or individuals.
- When choosing the knife of the day, consider the requirements of the anticipated work and laws of the location. Carry accordingly.
- Use a carried knife at least once during the day.
- When the day is done, inspect, sharpen, oil and maintain the knife as needed.
- Never go to bed without a knife within reach.

Not really a rule, but I try to buy USA made knives even though I do have a couple made overseas.

I think I've posted these before but...
1. Must have a lock mechanism or opening mechanism that I don't already have (or replace an example of these already in the collection).
2. Must be a great knife.

#2 can be violated if #1 is compelling enough.
Pretty much where I'm at too, at least as far as folders go...;)
