Thanks!

To the question:
Should I make it a user or keep it mint?
Soon there will be cheaper 440V natives to abuse. I don't buy knives for looking but this is so sweet that I want to baby this one.

What has been the destiny to other BF Natives - users or collectors pieces.

How do the etchings endure use?

I got mine and used it. Ran it into a staple, did some damage to it. Sent it back to Spyderco (several reasons), they re-did the edge. Now it is in its box, and I use my Spydie Standard.

I love the BF Native, but the Standard turned out to be even handier for me. So... to answer your question: use it. The is the best way to really appreciate it. I still carry mine occasionally, and I don't really baby it either.

I have a plain edge that I`m keeping nice, i.e. no hard use, I may open the odd envelope but that`s it.

My son got a serrated one that he uses a lot. I`ve brought it into work and used it on cardboard and plastic banding strap and stuff like that. The etchings seem to be holding up nicely.

The knife is such a nice user it would be a shame not to use it. It`s a nice size and the deep swedge cut into the blade makes the tip as thin as a flat ground blade. The 440v holds an edge like crazy. I`d never been a big fan of the Native until I got my BF Native.

So the solution to your problem is to buy two. One to look at and one to use.

I bought two, but both are users. Got the serrated first and then figured I liked plain-edged better so I got that, and then had the swedge on the plain one modified with semi-passive serrations (best of both worlds for me).

The modified knife is now my general user outdoor neck knife (in its concealex sheath).

The first knife is still a user, but competes for pocket time against my other knives. I'm not a collector.

After receiving my plain edge model, I sold or gave away my FRN Natives without much thought. The 440V can really hold an edge and the excellent textured G10 scales afford a real secure grip. I did not find sharpening its 440V steel much more difficult than others, just less is needed! It is a working knife no doubt and with a bit of flash thrown in!

Use it.

i got mine from another forum member and put it to use right away. it is something of a collectors item, but it's just so practical too! i'd use it.

I got four of them. Two each plain and partial. One os each is in the case and the others rotate rides in my right pocket with a couple of others. Got the first to use and help BFC. Ran into a few $$ extra, liked the knives so I got more to put up. Don't know if they will remain "wall-hangers" or not. Really like the knife, it doesn't seem to scare the sheeple.

I have a plain and serrated regular Native. Then I won the BF raffle. As much as I think that it would make a good user, I've set it aside as a reminder of one of the few times I've won anything. I carry a 50/50 edge Delica as my everyday carry anyway.

My plain-edge BF-native is going to stay mint!
I carry a starmate.
If I would use every knife I buy I would end up with a hughe pile of used (abused)knives. So I keep the most NIB in my collection, because I like to look at perfect blades. YMMV

Thanks all!

I think that I'll use it lightly but I'll not carry it. This means that I'll take it to my work desks drawer and open some letters ect but won't carry it to keep the clip blue.

I used mine quite a bit at first because I felt it was more useful than the others I had. Then I got my zytel Calypso Jr. and that's become my daily carry. I do still use the Native, but only for light use

Use it!

Mine just keeps getting better. The action is smooth as silk these days. The 440V holds an amazing edge, and the 'cute' blue color keeps the sheeple in their trees. What more could a Knife Knut besides a shopping trip at the factory store 5 days before Christmas?
