Got glue?

Since this is supposed to be about skills, maybe I shouldn't be posting this here. If that's the case, I apologize. This is about PSK gear you could say.

Remember that nearly starved Indian found in California almost a hundred years ago? He was called Ishi, though that wasn't actually his name. He was not "the last of the Mohicans," but he was probably the last of the Yanis or very close to it. Ishi was befriended by and cared for by a couple of academics. He lived among the white men until he died of disease several years later. Much was learned from Ishi during that time. I read long ago that he regarded glue as the single most important development of our culture, and he carried more than one kind in his ever present kit.

Remembering Ishi's thoughts on glue, some of you might want to consider adding just a little to your kit, too. I would like to suggest a stick or two of the stuff that is used in "hot glue guns" for craft work etc. These are little flexible plastic sticks about 4 inches long that can be used by simply melting the end with a match, lighter, or in the edge of your campfire, then quickly dobbing it onto whatever you need to make or repair. Improvised projectile points come to mind. These glue sticks come in high and low temperature versions. Take your pick. Some are round and some are flattened.

That's just my little suggestion for the day.

What does everyone think about krazy glue while we're here. They are small, and suppose to stick everything together (you know the steel beam and helmet). I used them for first aid purposes before, but does anyone think that there are other possible uses out there for this??

I don't carry either, thought about Super-Glue, but, you gotta cut the list of stuff somewhere. I think of a PSK as the size of an altoids tin, maybe a hair larger, it fills up quickly.

Perhaps in a larger kit, like a day pack or full backpack there would certainly be room SUper Glue, hot melt glue, and, of course, some beef jerky! :D

You could cut a stick down to as small as you wanted it to be. It might be a quicker, easier replacement for a sewing kit. It won't replace mine, but everyone has to tailor their kit to themselves.

I say it's probably worth at least considering, hopefully someone will find it food for thought and helpful. Personally, I agree that glue is some handy stuff, but I'm also a fan of packing light and primitive skills. So most of my adhesive projects in the bush involve saps, pitches, and hide glue.

For the quick seal of clean lacerations though, I think a small bit of superglue or NuSkin, might be worth the very minimal space it takes up. It will definitely fit in an altoids can.

Thanks for the suggestion, always happy to hear what other people find useful and new innovations that I may not have thought of
