Got me a Becker Patrol Pack !!!!!!

I was wondering the history on these. How much Mr. Becker was involved in it's development and the reasoning for certain things. Awesome pack, I dig mine.

i'll let him tell the full version :) yeah, he designed it, sought a maker, came to an arrangement, and well... there you go.
 
Hey Panzertroop.......

The original motivation was to piss a very good friend of mine off......When Bob went off to The Great southeast Asian War Games I sent a kukri with him and his experiences and the experiences of another friend who also served in Vietnam jump started the Machax project......When I sent Bob his Machax he only said(somewht dismissively) why don't you design something REALLY useful like an ALICE pack that works.......SOOOOOO......I took my backpacking experiences off trail and did a bunch of research (best source was a mimeo pamphlet called "trcky stuffyou need to know on patrol to stay alive" that was an internal pub from SF that I found at a gun show, it is actually titled U.S. SPCIAL FORCES! RECONNAISSANCE TRICKS OF THE TRADE , purportedly originated by Detachment B-52(Project Delta)".......A most fascinating little tome.....But also Col. Applegates books helped.......the whole point is that the pack is no wider than a human and ther are a bunch of non gear speciffic pockets so that you can find everything by feel.......External frame packs and tall internal frames are impossible to use successfulyy in heavy cover or vine infested areas.......I designed it to carry Beans, bullets and basics for three days.......The guys who did Sneaky Pete stuff learned to NEVER took their packs off until it was Budweiser time....Soooo I tried to make it as comfy as possible......

Thanks for the background. I am a big fan of the individual pockets as opposed to Molle or having a big internal frame duffel bag on your back.
 
I'm thinking that I need one more and more... this is bad.
Just out of curiosity, Mr. Becker, how much did you have to do with the Blackhawk version of the pack? Or did they just copy the design?
 
Tis a grand pack for sure. I got rid of mine. I'm stupid. I know.

The new incarnation is a pale shadow by comparison. Damn.
