Hey guys, I got my Springfield 1911-A1 today. My Kumar Karda thread didn't get much attention so I'm wondering if I should bother posting pics of my new 1911... What do you guys think? I'd hate to go through all the trouble of making a post that no one will see. ;)

Springfield 1911-A1

Anyways, let me know what you think. Will be shooting it this evening then reporting back. Thanks a bunch,

Heber

Very nice. I have always been happy with my Springfield pistols.

Nice pistol, did you pick it up used? I just noticed that it has some custom features like the trigger, hammer and sights. I like it a lot, it's a very clean, simple, functional package. Excellent choice.

Gents, thanks for the compliments, feel free to keep them coming. ;)

RoadRunner, glad you noticed some of the upgrades.... It had those black custom grips (Changed them to Factory grips a few minutes ago), new sights, and trigger. The hammer is stock as far as I can tell. I've seen Factory new Springfields with that hammer. Came with a Wilson Combat 47D 8 round mag. Picked up a Chip MicCormick Power Mag (8 round) also. Think I like it better. The 47D seems a little stiff when putting in the last 2 rounds.

Just got off the phone with Robert (we call him Bob) my gun smith. He's seen the same pics you guys have and he also likes the gun. Says he can Hot blue it for me sometime and make it look better then when it came from the Factory. I have some Vacation time coming in late January or early Febuary and will be sprending it in Spring City to hang with Family and have my gun refinished and trigger worked on. Trigger feels a little sloppy, not sure how to describe it. Maybe loose.. Don't know cause it's my first 1911. But the important thing is, it shoot. :) Will try to get some new pics with the factory grips soon.

By the way, the black grips it came with were contoured and rather thin. The Factory Walnut grips are much thicker and I like them a lot better. They feel like a pair of 1911 grips should IMO. :) I'm soo happy I made the purchase.

Very nice piece, Heber.
I have one that is somewhat similar.
I think the trigger is probably ok.
Have you dry fired the piece to see what kind of trigger pull it has?

I wish more Springfields were made stateside, but IMBEL seems to have a pretty good reputation on its own and under the Springfield name. That is a classy looking gun (so few 1911s aren't). Congratulations!

Have fun shooting it today, Heber; looking forward to more pics, some showing bullet holes. :p

And congrats- .45 ACP means never having to say you're sorry.

If you have your gunsmith put a somewhat coarse straight grit line polish on your 1911, (grit lines running parallel and front to back on the slide) when he hot blues it it will look like the 1918 so called "Black Army" finish.

Looks great with walnut grips.

or, you could ask Kumar to carve you some grip panels to look like one of his carved kardas!

:D

Great looking gun, Heber:)!

I'd love to have one of those one day.

Congratulations on a fine piece. The 1911 is a remarkable pistol. I only wish I had gotten into them sooner.

Nice piece. I take it you didn't go with the Ruger?

I just ordered my second 1911. I can't even shoot up the the abilities of my first, and here I am getting another one. I should have never listened to you guys, these things are much more expensive than khukuris!

From what I read in an issue of Guns&Ammo, Imbel doesn't make the guns for Springfield per se; rather they drop-forge some of the the parts for Springfield, who import them and then fit & finish them here in the US. The lower is marked Imbel/Brazil because that's where the lower originates, and the BATF says so.

Kamagong, I went with the Springfield 1911 because I found a good deal on the model I've been drooling over for years. Novak low profile/dove tail sights, Beavertail grip safety and worked over extractor. My friend is still holding the Ruger for me if I still want it and I might. Got to finally handle a Ruger P97 at the range a few weeks ago and for a concealed carry gun I think it would do great. Got the 1911 on my hip and it sure feels heavy. Then again my hip is messed up so that could be part of it. LOL!!

By the way, the gun shoots pretty good. The black grips were rather loose and no amount of tightening of the bolts would make them any better. Desided to shoot the gun with the black grips before desiding to change them out for the factory ones I had ordered. I did okay at the range, thinking the loose grips kept causing my hand to shift thowing off my aim just slightly. That and the trigger. I noticed that when I practiced pointing the gun (empty and safety on) that it took me a second or two to find the front sight. Well after shooting the gun I came home and switched out the black grips for the Walnut ones and now the gun points like it should. Everyone that has handled it before and after I changed grips likes the new ones. They are nice. Will be posting pics of them in a few minutes....
