Recieved my 42A-S from nwcutlery.com. It came in a huge box stuffed with newspaper.

First reaction was "What the hell?". The anodization is very strange on my knife... its not really shiny and its not really blue. Its more of a purple... Is this normal? I'd feel wierd carrying around a purple knife.

The anodization on the outside (when closed) of the safe handle is completly scratched off, down to the bare metal, as if it has been open and closed a lot. :/

The blade is a lot thinner (in both directions) than I expected, but thats ok. It wasn't sharp.

Ok, enough bad things. Its amazingly light!

Almost feels fake. I'll have to get used to that.

Its a 1st production, number 103/500. I think I will just put it away in a drawer and see if I can sell it for a small profit in 5 years or so.

nwcutlery.com has wonderful customer support! They are allowing me to swap the knife with one thats NIB. There would be no point in me keeping it unless it is NIB. Anyway, I highly reccomend the site. The knife even came in 2 days!

Same here nwcutlery.com was great and I got mine in 2 days too.My first impression of the BM 42 was "I think I paid too much for this"Its light I feel I can snap it in two.the blade was not sharp and it was thin. But the more I fliped it the more I liked it the knife has a very distinctive snappy sound to it the knife almost opens and closes by itself very little effort.

I almost forgot it took over an hour to sharpen the blade useing a Smiths precision sharpening kit ,you know the ones with the guide rods and three different stones, damn it took forever.

Yeah, I've decided to return the BM42A-S for a BM42-S and use the left over credit to go towards a Sharpmaker 204.

I didn't flip the anodized 42 I'm taking back, well ok, just a couple times to see how it felt.

I don't know how they're coloring their handles but it looks like a heat treatment and not electrical anodizing...........Does anyone know, Chuck????

The anodization is electrical. I've talked to those who have been shocked by the machine in question. I think Benchmade has addressed that issue.

But, Benchmade's intention is for it to be variable. Each 42A is a unique piece.
