Well..got "a" 55 back.

Had a bunch of these, managed to let every one escape..these 55's are tricky like that.....one of my favorite's.

And I think my first of any Busse w/ paper micarta.. (anyway to tell for sure?)

Happy to have one back, anyway..great blade..awful picture.

That is a great looking 55.

Not sure it is paper. Would need a closer pic. It looks more like black g10 to my eye, but with out a close up, or touching it, I've been wrong.....

But paper micarta feels completely different from g10. It is very tough to see the layers in machined black paper micarta from Busse (or others I've had). It has no visible fibers/grains like you can see in black g10, shiny points of facets.

It also feels warmer/softer in hand (though it is hard like micarta) it just feels different.

I agree. If you look closely at black G-10 you will see small white dots - these are not present in black paper micarta.

What makes me think paper is just that...I see no grain structure..especially on the ends..and edges where polished...it's smooth like obsidian, w/ no visible layers..

I'll take some better pics in a few days...am away for the holiday..

Thanks for the feedback and replies, everyone...

Some pics would be most appreciated...Show us your 55's!

It's a nice sized knife with a good blade shape.;)

I can see that, and then some, its a great knife for sure and all business, i was just asking why some might think its truly the best ever as there are so many great Busse blades with great size and shape.

To my eye, having never seen one irl, it seems like its extremely stout while being extremely lean and pointy, the grip seems very solid and intuitive, as I noticed before, its a lot of knife for the size, and its all business/performance, but Im just wondering what distinguishes it beyond that. Although I kind of answered my own question and the greatest of them all is just what strikes a particular hog's fancy.

Tell me why you feel this way, its one of those knives that I appreciate, but don't quite "get" and I hear people rave about them.

I agree with Klink, great size and a solid, tested design. Reminds me of the Randall 7...very similar..on 'roids, w/ a good bit of swagger thrown in.

And the handle shape...for as seemingly simple and strait forward is one of the most comfortable...very intuitive.

alright, I totally get it now :D
there's just so many awesome busse blades out there, I know of and about many but theyre always making more :cool::cool:

Great size and design, slim & lean to carry.
I got one in Large CBT, comp finish.
With its upswept point & large shiny CBT, this is the only knife that always seem to smile back at me, glaring its perfect teeth :D.
If i were a dentist, this would be the one knife that will represent me :D

Not a great pic, but you can make out how smooth/polished the ends are...free of visible grain structure. Plus I've noticed that this material "dents" more easily than G-10 it seems..noticed some small indentations from bumping/contacting others in the safe..
