Got my Alaskan Guide 110 today

I handled one of these at Cabela's and really liked the AG logo on the blade. Gives it a nice touch. As for the rosewood scales I am pretty sure it's real. Dymondwood is the only laminate that I know Buck uses. The AG 110 is a custom knife and Buck's custom shop offers other wood options like Walnut, Cherry, and Oak, which are all the real thing.

That's good to know. Thanks! I've got nothing against Dymondwood. It's just nice to know the rosewood is real, and the other wood Buck uses.

I sure have enjoyed reading the posts about the blade treatment. I wish Buck would offer the nitride treatment for their custom shop knives.

So far I've liked everything about my AG 110 except the edge. The factory edge on the knife disappointed me to say the least. My standard 110, Spitfire, and even two-dot 112 that Buck put a new edge on all had razor sharp edges. The edge on my AG 110 was not as nice. About a 1/2" or so of the edge by the tang was dull, almost blunt. The rest of the edge wouldn't even cut phonebook-like paper. If I tried to cut the paper, it wouldn't even tear. The paper edge would fold over and that'd be it. Since my sharpener has diamond plates, I was able to put a good edge on the knife. For a knife custom built by Buck, I was at least expecting the edge to be like their mainstream knives.

That's too bad you got that sort of edge on your Alaskan Guide 110. Glad you were able to correct it with a little stone work. DM

JayC,
I've been using the AG 110 since they first hit.
Is pretty much all we use in the field for our deer doins.
Edge lasts through several deer over 420HC.
I have several, tune them up at the beginning of deer season, usually lasts all season without having to tune them up again.
Sometimes tho, I might hit the wife beater strop with them and keep on going.
You will love it, and caution tho!!! IT will turn into THEM.
Look up your local chapter of Buck Anon!!!:D

LOL It's already starting to turn into them. The AG 110 is my second 110. We have two local auction houses that do their auctions online. I always keep an eye on them for any Buck knives. Sadly, they're usually always the cheap Chinese knives. There was a third auction house father away that had a really nice two dot 110 with sheath. Only sold for $23, but it was an hour and a half away. :grumpy:
