This was something new for me, since all the other khukuris I've gotten before have been 'big bellied' ones which broaden toward the tip, so I honestly wasn't sure how much I'd like this one. But of course, all it took was handling it a little, and I was instantly hooked. :D

Observations:

* The inlaid horn/bone yin-yangs and the wood grain look much better in person, so I was very happy about that. Unlike many of you "all business" guys here, I'm superficial and like my khukuris pretty. :p

* I'm really impressed with how easily it draws from the scabbard. That's probably not unusual, but since I'm used to the big-bellied blades, I'm accustomed to putting a little more effort into getting them out. It's a pleasant change.

* Though it's a bit shorter and broader, it handles much like a typical Turkish yataghan, ie. more of a weapon than a tool.

Good stuff! Can't wait to see what my next grab might be. ;)

I got an 18-incher for a buddy. I agree that it would be an excellent combat knife. Light enough to tote around and be quick in the hand. Tough enough to toe the line with just about anything short of a gun. Only drawback is that it won't hack through tank armor, but if you were a gurka you might still win a chopping contest with one.

Ruel, glad you like your latest acquisition.

When are you coming over to Malaysia again?

* Hey Golok! Maybe December; U Malaya is holding another linguistics conference I hope to attend.

* Military issue as a fighter or a tool? Either way, 18" would probably be more convenient (even if less fun).

I had me a 21 incher, and loved it to death. Traded it to N2S, and he's keeping it well. THe onnly one I could compare it to would be A Chitlangi.
