Got my domino and its better than I expected.

Where can I find a cf scale for my Southard? The one in evilgreg's photo looks wicked. Or any options for scales for the Southard would be nice to shop for. Any photos of ones for sale anywhere? Entered "southard scale" in the search function, didn't come up with much, maybe I missed it. Foliage green g10 would be nice too!
Thanks for any info..........

well It looks like I like it enough to have 2nds. I just couldnt bring myself to use it without having one to keep pristine. Whichever is nicer is going in the safe and the other will be EDC'd long term.

Purple, you wouldn't happen to have any calipers to put behind the edge would you? I really like the looks of this knife.

I have calipers and a Domino that's collecting dust--what did you want measured?

I got .55mm behind the edge near the choil and oddly enough .77mm near the tip. or 0.0215" and 0.030"

Mine is similar, though the smallest I found (near the choil, just above the point that the edge bevel starts) was a little bigger than that, at 0.60mm. The edge being thick makes sense, if the grind angle is steady the tip is higher up the wedge than the bottom of the leaf . . .

Seems my detent is scraping as it closes. Some guys have been talking about it. Hopefully it will smooth out. Flips well.

Too late. Its all ready been done. You gotta be quick around these parts.

Hey, I found one at a local gun show this weekend and WOW this is one nice knife. I would almost describe it as a "gentlemen's" flipper if that makes any sense. Its the perfect size for edc in my opinion and it already bit the heck out of my thumb.

What angle would you sharpen this thing on a sharpmaker?

30°, XHP can easily handle it. Then again, it all depends on what angle your domino came from the factory. Mine came at around 40° inclusive, maybe even more obtuse, and re profiling down to 26° inclusive was no issue for me on the wicked edge, but doing the same on a sharpmaker would be an absolute nightmare, like its cousin d2, xhp doesnt exactly sharpen overly quickly...

Best thing you can do is mark the edge with a sharpie and take a few swipes on 30°, if youre removing the sharpie from the very apex of the edge, youre good to go at that angle. If you're only removing marker from the shoulder of the bevel, then you'll need to give 40° a try.

It will. Ive had 4 of these things so far and all of them kinda make a "shuck" sound as the blade rotates. The one that I kept ive been edcing. After about a week of use it should be quiet. A little oil in the detent hole works wonders as well.

I like everything about it except, the Spydie hole looks to be in the wrong spot when the blade is closed. It looks to far forward.

That may or may not have been done on purpose. One thing spyderco supposedly wanted to address was ease of opening with the thumb hole. The best way to do this while retain an acceptable detent for flipping is to move the hole closer to the tip of the blade as to increase leverage. Moving the finger groove and everything else to compensate would IMHO sacrifice some of the great ergos this knife possesses.

Spydie hole works perfectly on the domino, I don't know why people are complaining. Just my opinion though.

It does work just fine and I've got some big mitts. No complaints here.

The hole works really well, but the handle blocks much of your thumb from getting in to open it. That said, opening the Domino is just fun. Had the knife for a few days and my gf still fights me for it. The carbon fiber may be a love it or hate it sort of thing for many folks, but it gives it that 'gentleman's flipper' appearance. IMO, it's much sexier than the brown G-10 on the Southard and isn't an overly generic CF pattern like you see on most knives.

The word sexy and the textured Earth-brown G-10 scale of the Southard don't belong in the same sentence. That scale is so bland that it makes sex boring. :)
