It's a great tool, but I must say the handle is way too small!
I have fairly big hands so it seems quite thin in most grips, but with my thumb on the spine It feels pretty good. I was wondering if the rubber handle can be removed and I can get my own put on? I think it's a stick like tang though.
Anyway, maybe my next one will be the blade blank.

I do agree, kinda small handle in big paws but their are so many good things about it, I'd still be content if it were my only blade!

I have been thinking about a blank myself, that would be a fun project! Lets all get blanks!!

Just started my F1 today. I've had it since August.

You can rehandle a regular F1 but you have to mortise the scales. I did that on my S1 because the handle sucked.

Ilbruche, how wxactly did you mortise the scales, with a chisel?
Did you do both scales equally or 1 with a flat scale on top?

I did it with a Dremel using the little depth guide and the circular cutter.

Trace the tang on both scales and cut out 1/2 the blade width on each scale.

You could do it on just one scale if they were thick enough. But I don't think it would look as good.

I've reworked the handle since this picture was taken.

Great! My dremel has crapped out, that thing was handy as heck though, I should get a new one.
I want to put a slightly more sunstantial handguard on as well.

If you don't fancy tackling fitting a new handle you could try paracord wrapping the existing one to fill it out. That's what I did with my Scrapyard DM and it feels great now !!!!

Pitdog, I did try the paracord, and it did feel pretty good. When I get Normarks sheath I will try a hot blow drier to make it fit over the paracord.

Liam,

After I get back home and get settled in, I'll send along some pics of the F1 blade blank that I handled in olive green micarta. I picked up my blade blank from Knifecenter.com, and the handle material from Jantz Supply. The sheath for it is a nice reddish-brown pouch sheath I picked up at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association Fall Shoot this past September.

Thanks Ron. I will just wrap this one in paracord.
I want an S1 anyway, so thats the blank I will probably check out.

Wow, thats amazing, did it come with those sweet pins?
Did you contour the scales yourself? I really want to do that and get a great custom fit in the hand.

While on the topic of F1s...since they have a convex edge, do you need to carry a strop to restore the edge in the woods, or just a rod?
