My electrician came in today - amazingly well-made little knife. Seems to be much smoother than the celluloid ones, and it looks like a knife for an adult, IMO. (Or, it could just be that I carried SAKs so much as a child.)

The ALOX SAKs are really amazingly utilitarian knives...I have (and have had) a bunch....never had one break, fail or even disappoint.

I still have the first one I ever bought in '82 and it's still tight, walking and talking as well as the day I bought it!

Love them! They are very addicting...sorta like crack with a can opener! :D

ETA: ok here are some Soldiers...it just occurred to me...I don't have an electrician! :(

The Electrician is a great knife. Here's mine:

I just got a new Alox Cadet this week and have been carrying it. Perfect size for the office.

I got an ALOX Cadet a few years ago and was blown away by the great F&F.
A real bargin IMO.

I've never had Alox skales on a SAK. How do you all like them in comparison to the classic red scales? What is the Alox material (plastic? Metal?)? How does it feel in hand? Wear n tear in daily use?

I like the look of the Alox.

Anodized aluminum..it feels really SOLID! :D

The blades on the 93mm (scout style) are thicker as well...built for heavy use!

I can't remember a time when I didn't have the Cadet with me. Either in my jeans pocket or jacket breast pocket.

Great little knife at such an affordable price.

Congrats on your Electrician.

Hard to beat the SAK Alox knives. They are durable and stand up to hard use but then again so do the ones with the red covers.

Here is a silver Farmer and a red Farmer.

I've got two silver alox Pioneers coming today and I'm carrying a silver Farmer as one of my EDCs today.

Which models give this thicker blade configuration? I was looking at a Pioneer online and liked this model. Is it one of those with the thicker blade?

Yes, Pioneer, Farmer, Electrician.....

Quick snap, Pioneer vs Champion

I love the Alox SAK's much more than the plastic handled ones. The only reason I don't really use them much anymore is that they just don't hold an edge like 1095 does or other SS knives that I use (like 154CM or CPM-S30V). If I'm gonna carry a slippy it will be in 1095 most of the time.

I like them because they are so much more than a knife. Always seem to need a screwdriver for something and discovered a long time ago that the awl was the perfect tool for opening shipping boxes...cuts the tape but not into the box...saves the main blade too. The can opener is perfect for removing stubborn thumbtacks and the big screwdriver/bottle opener blade is perfect for adjusting a stiff gas regulator on a L1A1 rifle.  :D

Congratz!

The Electrician is a great pattern. The secondary sheepfoot blade is pretty useful. The caplifter is a great option ;)

Well - you definitelly need others: Vic Farmer, Pioneer, Harvester, Cadet etc etc etc and of course the great Wenger SI (if you still can find it)

Welcome to a new addiction :D

I wish they made all of their knives in Alox and offered more colors on a regular basis! Here is an older pic of all the cadets I used to have. Now I have three Alox Cadets, a Pioneer, and a Solo.

The colored Alox versions were once available here in Germany as well. Now only the silver ones are. The other have to be ordered by Swissbianco, if Roger has them in stock. I don´t know if they are part of their regular line-up in the US. Are they? (Just for my interest)

The Alox Bantam is probably the perfect pocketknife for me--I have preferences for more classic American and European patterns but for sheer utility it's tops! They are all great choices.

Black and red are still readily available on the Cadet, it seems like black can be found for the Pioneer, not sure about the Farmer. It's hit and miss and there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason. I really wish they would do more blue, green, and copper or orange.
