Got my first Alox SAK!

Thanks for the reply, Erik :) Much appreciated!

I always thought they would be around in the US like the synthetic ones - but I was definitelly wrong :o

I bought two Cadets, a black an orange one off their limited line-up recently. Quiete nice knives, though I haven´t carried them too much.

It's my understanding that the Alox Electrician has been discontinued by Victorinox. You can still find them at various sites but when they're gone they're gone.

Some are saying that Victorinox is going to discontinue all Alox knives. Too bad.

100% agreed - I´ve heard the same as well - unfortunatelly!

I thought this would almost be in public with the knife nuts...

What!!! That is one of the worst ideas I have heard in a long time. Why would they do this? So they can make the "Classic" in another 100 patterns no one wants? I am hopefully going to Switzerland in August and may have to storm the gates if this rumor comes to fruition. My day is ruined.........

I have heard nothing of the ALOX models being discontinued...the Pioneer and Farmers are great sellers and as Swiss Bianco has proven, there is a healthy collectors/users market for specialty ALOX. I can't see it happening to the 93mm models.

I really like the Alox SAKs. I have a couple of older red Pioneers that I bought used that I like a lot. The Pioneer/Soldier is one of my Favorite knives and probably my favorite SAK. I like a few of the 91mm models as well (Climber, Explorer, Spartan), but generally I prefer the Alox Pioneer/Soldier for it's slimness in pocket for a substantially sized blade and basic toolset. I like the Farmer a lot as well, but I see little use for the saw. My other favorite Alox is the Cadet which I seem to carry more than any of my other knives these days.

I would really like to see Victorinox put out a limited Alox Cadet and Alox Solo with a Damascus (Damasteel) Blade.

What? Alox is being discontinued? Wait! I still want to buy one or like ten!

I like them because they are so much more than a knife. Always seem to need a screwdriver for something and discovered a long time ago that the awl was the perfect tool for opening shipping boxes...cuts the tape but not into the box...saves the main blade too. The can opener is perfect for removing stubborn thumbtacks and the big screwdriver/bottle opener blade is perfect for adjusting a stiff gas regulator on a L1A1 rifle.  :D

Yup. I find I use my EDC SAK more at the rifle range than almost anywhere else.

Hi Folks,

Well, may I blame you folks for my having just ordered an Electrician?

I have a bunch of red scale SAK....but, the ones I truly like and enjoy carrying are the Alox models. I have three Cadets, a Classic, a Pioneer, a Farmer, and from what I understand, one of the last of the original Soldiers (mine is marked 1 of 5000).

Anyway, thanks for the nudge. I'm really looking forward to getting this one.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

George

edit... Was just surfing around and happened across a review on the Electrician Plus. It seems just like "the regular" Electrician but has a saw. The review didn't say anything about it being a custom. It was purchased 2006.

edit... Did a little more looking around. I think the Plus is a knife from SwissBianco. As I best understand it, they have SAK make them special models, different blade/tool configurations and colors.
