Got my first becker! Not very impressed.

Actually, now that I look back, I see that the OP's sheath is also the only-goes-in-one-way kind. Hmmmmmm.

Bummer that this happened to you, don't blame you for being frustrated. I'm not much of a knife collector but I get the impression from having been on BF for a while that there's no way around a percentage of people having some issues with both production knives AND customs. Hope it all works out and you're up and running for good without too much additional hassle.

Well said. Although I get snarley with the truly BS troll posts, some are legit. No mass produced product can be produced 24-7 without the occasional glitch. The stand up aspect of Ka-Bar Becker though is that they'll make it right for you.

I just file 13 the Kydex and all my Ka-Bar Beckers have Custom "Leather" Sheaths as I was brought up with the Leather and like the feel and the smell and if you take care of them they will take care of your knife.! Keep your Leather and Knife dry & clean (just like you should do all of yours Knives & Sheaths) and you will be one happy Camper.
As a bent blade on a BK2 ~~ that I would like to see ~~ as a bet I hammered mine into a Tree and stood on it (I weighed 265#'s when I did this) and I took $135.00 from my unhappy 'Campers' as the Knife was as straight as an Arrow when we got it out and layed it on a flat & true 2x4.! I have all the BK's but one and that is the BK10 and it is on the way and Sheath is being made and if there is a problem with the #10 I will send it to Ka-Bar and I know that it will be handled right and will come home to Daddy.! I don't post much on here but when you believe in a product ~~ then you have to speak up. At least that is the way I feel.! Thank you for reading.*

I've seen bent BK2's. When they roll stamp them, sometimes they come bent, and when they are ground bent, it makes the grinds off. Roll stamping is hard on the blades but there is a process of straightening that the knives must go through before they leave. Sometimes that don't happen.

For sure. I happen to have one of these examples. I noticed it a week or so ago when I took off the grivory to see if anything had worked its way underneath (moisture mostly is what I was looking for). Its not a huge deal to me, but I could see how it might be to others.

You mostly notice it right at the tip, one side is much thicker than the other. Maybe I'll post a photo of it sometime.

Come see me I'll show you a bent BK2. It was bent during the roll stamping process like moose said. But I ain't given her up, thats the way she came and thats the way she is, the grinds were not effected so it's fine for the abuse i put it through.

To the OP.....Im not affiliated with Ka-Bar by any means but if you want a custom Kydex sheath let me know. I'll make ya one in the next day or so and drop it in the mail on my dime. Theres some good guys in this forum that have taught me alot. Figure I can pass on some good will. ;)

Thanks for all the advice guys I appreciate it. As for the sheath, I might just try wearing out the sheath until it doesn't dull it anymore and eventually get a kydex one when I feel up to it. I have taken the knife on a little spin in the woods today and I am very happy with how it performs. It is great for small tasks and is a sturdy tool for my purposes. I like the low profile aspect with how lightweight it is. I just get a little impatient with all of the hassle of buying a new product and having more than one issue with it. For a sharpener, what would you guys suggest for a small, compact system for decent sharpening? I would perfer it on the cheaper side and was wondering if there are any good stones I could afford. My method is just not cutting it anymore.

What kind of budget did you have in mind?

I know its asking a lot for a decent sharpener, but I was thinking around 30-40. I don't need anything amazing but I need something decent

I heard of the sheath problem alot, and it's so weird because mine doesn't do it. I know I have one of the older sheaths, because I bought the Eskabar from Tomars several months ago. My sheath doesn't dull my blade. I dull my blade. Through use or just trying to sharpen on my own(which I'm obviously lousy at). I actually EDC my 14 except for at work so it does get used, but the sheath doesn't dull it like people seem to claim it does. Perhaps it's because when I draw my knife, I push off the sheath with my thumb to help it come out? I know that sounds a little confusing, but as I'm pulling with my hand, I push down against the sheath with my thumb. Maybe I'm just imagining things, but maybe it's helping my sheath from dulling the edge.

Either way, sorry about your mishap, man. Don't let it make you think bad about KaBar/Becker. They're great knives. Especially for the money.

Lansky, then. You can get a basic kit for around $30 off teh interwebz. It works and works well. There are better systems out there, but you gotta fork over more chedder for them guys. KME (:D) EdgePro, WickedEdge, and the SharpMaker.

Basic benchstones aren't that expensive, if you wanna freehand. Check out Norton Stones, they sell some of the best.

That is the great thing about 1095CV, you can use stones, and not diamonds. I use diamonds, it just makes it faster.

Yep, Lansky is what I use as well, and it seems to work well for most knives, and is great for those of us that are "sharpening impaired".

:)

The folding dmt duofold red and blue is what I use. They are cheap and easy to cary in the field and do a great job. Its the coarse and fine diamond. I also carry a old gerber sharpmaker, its got one side fine diamond and the other is a ceramic, slides in and out of the handle with a button, takes up very little room.

Thanks a lot for all the advice guys :) I'll look into those and see what I can dig up.

@Opkey: even pushing out the knife with my thumb on the sheath dulls it. I try to keep the spine against the inside of the sheath but the dulling is unavoidable for me. Thanks for commentary though.

I have the Gatco system (it's like the Lansky) for re-profiling and the Spyderco Sharpmaker for touch-up. I love both of them. As for the dulling, yep, my 11 and 2 were the same way. Resolved the 2 by getting a leather sheath and I haven't noticed the 11 getting dull any more so maybe I played with it enough.

The folding DMT is a good suggestion, I had one at one point (wonder what happened to it?) and it was great for field touch-ups.

Man, I'm so glad you tried it out. My hat's off to you for keeping an open mind after your initial disappointment.

I got a smith's (similar to a lansky, but with diamond hones) at a home-improvement mega-mart on the 25 dollar-ish cheap. It seems to work quite well for my needs. But I'd definitely advise you to make yourself a strop for finishing. They just can't be beat for dollar-to-effectiveness. Just get a cheap thrift-store belt, and rub it with rouge or a similar polishing compound on the rough side. You can even nail or glue it to a piece of wood if you want. I went from having dull blades to shavers almost instantly when I got mine.
