Got my first HI

C'mon warty and turn loose of that YCS. That is so danged pretty. I'd like one either like yours with the carved or regular wood handle. Its been gnawing at the back of my brain to get one but I've been waiting for the kami situation to settle before asking Yangdu about it. Probably have to special order. Thanks for the good photos and the yearnings that they stirred up.

Oh yeah, a special THANKS out to you Yvsa for this beautiful design. And I agree with you Yvsa that it would have been nice if they could have put more curve in the handle.

Edit: Thanks for mentioning that wartys YCS was chiruwa 'cause I hadn't noticed that, Kamagong. I'm with you, I like the stick tang better myself.

Rick

To be honest I prefer the carving over the inlaid symbols too. But if I had to choose between carved chiruwa or the inlaid hidden tang, I'll take the inlaid.

I don't know why the kamis gravitated towards making the YCS with the chiruwa handles. IMO the perfect YCS would be a carved, hidden tang knife.

JParanee,

Lorien's Jange is listed under "For Sale: Production Knives Individual". His listing post is "Blade Sale: Big Fixed Blades!" with the Last Post date of 4-19-2010. I usually just go to the Exchange page and enter "khukuri" into the Search. If you do the Search you'll see the listing near the top of the second page. Lorien's Jange is made by Sher, too. In addition to the high finish, this blade has a couple of nice "aunlo bal (finger of strength/force/energy)" fullers(grooves) near the spine that go nearly to the tip. Its tang doesn't go through. Plain wood on the butt of the handle like the picture Big W posted.

Keep your eyes open and I'm sure that you'll see the Foxy's Folly show up. I would recommend keeping an eye out for the Yvsa Cherokee Special(YCS), Ganga Ram Special(GRS) and the Dui Chirra. The YCS comes in about 17-18" and the other two are about 20-22" models (unless you see the 18" Baby Ganga Ram Special(BGRS)). All four models are beautiful in form and function with impeccable pedigrees.

Welcome to HIKV!!

Rick

I called Lorien and picked that one up also being that it was made by the same maker . Thanks

JParanee-I'm glad you picked that Jange up. I contacted Lorien about it after I first saw it. Personally, I don't think that I need a khukuri over 18" - except for my 25" Kobra that I use for taking out weeds.

kamagong-I saw much talk in the Archives of the YCS2 which would have a regular wooden handle and include the three tools that came with the original. That is the model that I would like to get. When the kamis did the first ones, they included a regular chakma and karda with the regular handled models. I believe they were calling it a plain handled YCS and the kamis figured that it should have plain old khukuri accompaniments. To distinguish between the "plain handled" and a regular handled YCS with all tools, they were calling it a YCS2 - that is IIRC. I figure that I'll have to special order a YCS for myself since I want it to be close to Yvsa's original specs ie: 17-18" OAL, 22-24 oz in weight, the full tool complement and white metal fittings (I don't think that I would be able to use one with silver fittings). The ones that I've seen offered lately seem heavier than the original design and for me what I want to experience is Yvsa's original design.

To each their own I suppose... my YCS is wood handled, not horn as most folks think when the look at the pictures of it. I believe it is called Monkey Pod Wood? But that part I am not certain of... the kardas are made of the same wood as well. The awl, which is not very pointy and triangular in cross section has the only buffalo horn handle of the bunch. What I think would really make this one perfect would be if the sarki had put a design, say a dragon to match things? or maybe a temple scene like I have on my older, 12" Sirupate? Then perhaps a bit of scrolling in the metal of the scabbard as well, which the Siru also has, and it would be the absolute perfect show piece IMO... of course I actually agree that a stick tang with perhaps some ornamentation on the pommel cap like is done on the Salyans and I would make pee-pee on myself to gaze upon it.

JParanee got bit by the HIKV baddd...

By my last check, did you not just purchased a Gelbu special and a vojpure?
Thanks. Was having difficulty resisting the Gelbu Special :)

yea that was me

I can't believe the value these blades are. I am used to spending some pretty big money on knives and these things are a deal and they have a raw flavor and performance level that is hard to beat. plus the history is cool as hell.

I'm going to HAVE to get one of these in the very near future now!!! I'm thinking I "need" an HI M43 (I think that's the model??) :)
