Wild Hog's can be delicious. I say can be, as there seem's to be several variables, some of which I don't fully understand. I prefer to shoot female's 50 to 150 lbs in the head if possible. I cut the meat up into thin strips. I fry the meat in a cast iron skillet with olive oil, Tony Chacere's seasoning and black pepper. I find if the hog has fat, it taste better to me. Not all wild hog's will have fat, some can have very little if any. I have noticed some small boars taste okay, but personally don't care for large boars. Some say you can add salt and vinegar into your ice chest while aging it for several day's and it will remove the Boar's gamey taste. I have not tried it on large boar's. Hog's seem to vary in taste from animal to animal, area to area, and diet may play into the taste along with shot placement and meat handleing method's. If you get a good one, they can taste better than venison and sometimes are even superior to store bought. Just depends on the particular animal in my experience. Congrats on your Hog score.

Nice kill. Great hog rifle too. Hopefully the meat's in good shape. I've done alot of hogging along the Emerald Coast and outside of San An, and most of my Florida hogs were so wormy the meat wasn't even worth processing. Had a few Squadron spit roasts back in the day though, wild pork is incredible. Great for smoking, too.

This is my first wild hog. My hunting friend who has been hunting this area and taken several hogs was quite confident this will taste fantastic. Some of the larger hogs in this area just plain out stink when you shoot them... the meat smells rotten right after death. This hog of mine didn't smell at all... no stink when we gutted and skinned him out. Also, there was not a lot of fat so I'm hopeful he'll taste good. He's at a great processor getting ready now, hopefully ready to pick up in the next couple of weeks.

I'm just as excited to get the mount back... but that will likely be early Summer.

Haven't got him back f the processor yet... Very busy time of the year for them.

It's is a break of sorts on the .243... It is actually a "tuner" for different bullet loads. This Ruger shoots really good so I haven't had to really mess w it much since I mostly shoot factory loads thru it. :)

I reside in Tulsa also but had no idea there were any Russian hogs anywhere nearby. I've taken 2 wild hogs in OK. Mine were both good eating and the biggest was a 150 pound sow. Congratulations you have a terrific trophy and I'd wager some great meals to come.

OK... forgot about this post but thought I'd update...

The sausage on this guy is really good eating. Had breakfast sausage, Italian sausage, roast and boneless pork chops made from it ... no bacon as there isn't enough fat on this guy. The sausage is REALLY good in lasagna and along w/some eggs for breakfast. The pork-chops have been pretty good too.
