Yes, I got my first mora, and can I say Holy Crap! I got this thing for $20 (it would of been $10 but I spent more on shipping :p) and this knife is down right amazing!

I got this for a hiking knife, which needed to be light, and about 4 inches long. It fits so well in my hand, and has such a great grip (plus the scandi grind is AWESOME!) that its my favorite knife! Thats saying something when I have a Busse BATAC and a GW. I am not bashing busse but I like this knife better than the two busses I have now.

But if the you-know-what hits the fan, and I was in a uban situation I would grab my BATAC, because of its strength and prying capabilitys, but if I am going for a hike or camping, my Leatherman Wave and Mora # 840 will be enough (plus gear).

This doesn't mean there isn't bad stuff (or not so good stuff) about the mora... There are two things that I dont like. One is Very simple to change and one not so easy.

First the not so easy. The sheath isn't so great... it will hold it but if you jump down hard, it will loosen the hold on the knife, and if you sit after that, you will loose your knife, and that not good... :( So i am gojng to get a new one. I want to get a leather one. Anyone recomend one?

The easy to fix, or easy to prevent problem is, no lanyard hole.... which brings me to a question. Can I just get a power drill (put knife in vice :p) and drill a hole my self, or do i need to go through the tang? is going through the tang possible?

I will address your problems:

1st the sheath...avoid jumping up and down. This strategy has helped my Moras stay in their sheaths just dandy...:)

2nd. Yea..drill away. Of course, go slow...

Congrats BG!

Feels kinda good to find such a good performer for so little coin, huh? Keep us posted on all the fun that Mora has out on the trails and around the camp.

Fisrt strip its going on is Heather Lake. This weekend. I wish i had a camera... I want to get a stainless next.

You don't have to drill through the tang. The tang stops well short of where you want a lanyard hole. Someone might know where to get a sheath as there are some good makers here. If you don't find one, I can make you one. I have made quite a few for mine, I usually put a fire steel loop on them too.

You will love the stainless one too. I have a couple of the stainless Clippers. My oldest Mora is a SS Clipper. It's hard to beat a 4 OZ Mora to carry.

I will drill the holes this weekend! :)

I bet your sheath will do :) just needs to fit tight! :p send me a PM about priceing I am heading out right now and ill get back to you probably Friday.

Good for you. Even with all the other knives I have I too find myself going to my Mora Clipper:) most often, especially when cooking.
I ordered a few with unpainted Birch handles to customize.

Good luck on the lanyard hole and have fun trekking:)

I haven't bought a Mora yet because I'm afraid I will realize I've spent way more on knives than I "need" to.

So I belittle it with its silly thin steel, tupperware sheath and that it's an import. It helps me sleep at night. :D

TRAITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you can just send those Busses my way now. Just playing. Hows it going Blood Hooves???

Congratulations!!!!

It's hard to beat a knife that comes razor sharp, resharpens easily, and costs as much as the shipping!

Yeah Moras are great knives, but the sheathes not so much.

Here's the home-made sheath my 760 rides in:

:thumbup:Congrats on your new blade. Before you know it, you'll have a whole stable full of them.

I dont get it. Yes the Mora knives are good knives for the price. In Sweden they cost from 15 SEK (about 2,5 USD) and up ending with the Mora 2000 for about 135 SEK or 20 USD. But whay have they been praised beyond belief?

The sheaths are so ugly because the knife is so cheap. Making a kydex sheath would be strange, the flat kydex piece alone is worth more than the knife itself.

A Mora is killing the self esteem of anyone who has bought maybe thousands of dollars worth of knives. I could probably do the same thing with a Mora that I can do with a Fallkniven F1, but I want the extra strangth in the F1 as a safety.

You should do your survival training with just a regular Mora knife, why you might wonder. It is because you know that you can not abuse it too hard or it will break so you have to come up with solutions that does not involve hitting the knife too hard.
Then when you are in a "real" situation you probably have a "stronger" knife that gives you that margin of safety that makes the difference.

In Scandinavia, Mora knives are more or less "use once" knives, that is why Hultafors tool company have made, what many carpenters have done with duct tape, the double sheath. Now you can have a "clean" knife and a "pry and destroy" knife at almost the same place. Also they sell knives without sheath since usually you use five knives before your sheath is worn out.

Good luck with your knives.

Nodh,

I've bought several of these Hultafors knives at Julta when I was in the Stockholm region.
Do the knives come apart from the handle with regular cutting work? I've found the orange and green (thicker blade) ones, good knives. They just work well for me, when cutting/carving wood. Yes, they are no F1's but they do cut well, and feel strong enough. What's your experience?
