Got my first Queen Cutlery knife - and I´m really impressed

Another reason to ignore conventional "wisdom" and try things for yourself. I've always found that D2 takes a great edge, and holds it for a long time. Mine are very quick and easy to sharpen on diamonds, and easy to touch up on ceramics. Enjoy your new knife, it looks great!

Good work, Uncle Andi! I'm glad you are enjoying your new knife so well. And, it sounds like your experience with D2 mirrors mine: sharpens up pretty easily, and takes a very keen edge.

Thanks for the kind words again, fellows. :)

Well - I just took a little time to sharpen this knife. I used my standart 320 grit stone and then three finer stones until I come down to leather strop. The D2 performed very great without any problem. I sharpened every blade at an angle of 20° per side and everything is fine. The three blades are razorsharp now. I was surprised that the D2 was so easy to sharpen. I feared, it would take a long time and a lot of material loss. But it just works great.

(Sorry - I didn´t take some "Before"-pics, but here´s the result)

I was a little worried, because I read all the stories here about the hardness of that steel and that it (can be) impossible to sharpen. The blades are as sharp as any other of my pocket knives.

Very nice, Andi!

I don't know if you caught the following photo I made before but I will post it for you again just in support of your findings with D2

I took this for two reasons, one to show that you can get D2 incredibly sharp and secondly to show you do NOT have to have a mirror polished edge to split hair. This is a VERY FINE hair under extreme magnification. I held the hair with tweezers and lightly pushed it into the edge, it split into the hair twice with ease.

Enjoy that whittler my friend :)

Thanks for the word, fellows :)

@Alex: I was really worried that my sharping skills come to their borders - especially with my equipment, but I was nicely surprised. I don´t have any diamond hones or whatever. Just some water/oil stones and a leather strop.

@ Kevin: I know that pic, but I didn´t know that this pic was taken by sharp D2. About mirror polished edges - I don´t make them actually. I like a little "toothier" bite on the edge. Your pic is really impressing. Especially then splitting a hair. Maybe at my edge it looks like mirror polish, but it isn´t - just a trick with the angle of the camera.

I remember, I posted here some time, I don´t polish them. Your pics are always great and make things easier to know what is talked about (especially for me, not knowing every term), my friend :)

That whittler is really a heck of a knife :D

Nah, I don't use diamond stones either. I've never owned one, until just recently when a friend gifted me a set, but I have yet to try them out.
