Got my first shipment of "known, good steel"

1084.. 48 inches of it, 2 inches wide, 1/8th inch thick.. I have made maybe 20 knives so far, all from files, leaf springs, 1040 sheeting, and other garbage. I am a little worried for some reason, this is the "good stuff". With the scraps I had been using, mistakes were just like, "oh well, whatever.." Now that I have the steel I need though, I don't want any mistakes.. I've been reading up on how to heat treat it, got some, vague information from google.

Any tips, or tricks, or advice, or lectures, or anything you guys can give me to just say to hell with it, and get me to dig in and burry that steel into the grinder?

Oh yeah Practice Practice Practice don't worry I have a 5gal bucket almost full of Practice over the years!

That bar is the cheapest good steel you will ever find, it's not gold, it's not the last of it's kind

Screw it up and buy some more.

Very very very good advice from Sam.

I have a hard time worrying about messing up on some CPM20CV I bought. It's $20 for 3/32" x 1" x 12". That isn't even expensive for steel, compared to pattern welded. Use your 1084. They make plenty of it, you'll be able to get more.
