Got my first Spyderco knife yesterday, a Endura 4 SS PE. Man, what a knife!! Hadn't bought a Sypdie till now, dunno why just hadn't. As soon as I held this blade though, I knew I had to have it. It's big, but carries like a much smaller knife. It fits perfectly in the pocket for such a large folder. And wow is this thing sturdy! From the blade to the handles and lock this thing just feels tough! This was the display and the last one they had so the edge wasn't too sharp I guess due to all the handling but a couple passes on the Sharpmaker and it shaves hair easier than any other knife I own! I'm thinking this might not be my last spydie!! :D

I liked the stainless version better due to the beefier feel, but I was curious if any of you have modified one of these in any way to increase the grip. I was thinking of having a buddy of mine whos a machinist put some kind of texturing in the SS handles or something. Anyone done this or anything similar? Thanks in advance for any info!!

Endura is a good knife. Enjoy it. It will not be you last spydie.

try some adhesive grip tape from lowes it has sandpaper texture and comes in black cut it to fit it looks and works great

There have been any number of modifications to improve the grip on SS Spyderco knives. Grip tape has been mentioned, I've seen some with jimping cut into the edges with a Dremel tool, wood overlays added and I seem to recall seeing one or two that the handles have been ground to resemble a knapped flint blade. That one is actually my personal favorite, as it can be left very rough or polished a bit to adjust the texture between grippy and pocket shredding.

Be advised that these knives do shrink. In a week, that Endura will be a normal size and everything else will just feel tiny.;)

:D haha, I had to read that twice, admittedly the first thing that went through my head was "what?? shrinking metal??", :p

Thanks for the info guys! I'll do a little searching around the spyderco forums and see if I can't find some modded spydie's!

I use 3M walkway tape on all my SS knives. Don't get the stuff with the minerals in it. It will just tear up your pocket and tear up your hand. The rubber stuff used around jacuzzis is perfect, comfortable, and extremely durable.

Haha. Sadly it is true. When I first got it, i was like holy crap that is big. I have a opinel 10 which is about the same size and always thought that was big. Though over the past few days I've gotten used to the size and it seems normal. It is big in any case, though the initial wow factor of it's size is gone.

Congrats on the spydie. I got my first one this week too, a PE Endura. Also got my second one this week lol, a paramillie, though it should be here middle of next week.

Nice  what you getting next ? :D

next., hmm.., I'm thinking a millie or a para-millie not sure yet though. All the knives I have with G-10 scales have metal liners., how do they hold up with no metal backing on the G-10?

Mine have held up quite well. I carry (among other things) an old 440V Military with thinner G-10 than they use now and no partial second liner. I bought the knife used, and apparently not gently used either. Although you can tell the G-10 has a little wear on it, it has not chipped, cracked, warped or peeled, and the action and lock-up are still perfect.

The Endura, big? It doesn't even have a four inch blade...

You really need to handle the Military.

Well, lol, for a knife I am going to EDC, it is big. Getting used to it though, me likes it mucho. So amazingly sharp. I should have my paramilitary by midweek, so who knows, maybe the military will be here one day...
