got my first XM18 a horror story - blue and bronze update with new photos

Geez, I have a good buddy, the last two new firearms I took with me to shoot, he had them loaded up and was on the line with them before I knew it, he has no issue helping me "break them in"...

:)

Then again, I'd have it no other way with my shooting partners...otherwise, they probably wouldn't be my shooting buddies.

There is only one first shot, and I thought it should be the guy that purchased the gun who should take it. I'm just weird like that.

They say you always remember your first shot, Oh wait..... that's something else. Nevermind.

Firsties are generally gone by the time you get to the range...many manufacturers test fire before signing off.

Man OP I feel your pain bro, that has never happened to me with a knife but we've all had a similar experience at some point. I'm sure Rick and Co. would make that XM like new for you if you sent it in, particularly if you told them that story as well.

Man I still keep having visions of peeps around me asking to see my XM and then BAM....something bad happens. Perhaps an elastic lanyard that can only travel a radius of 2 feet from my belt/pocket?

Wrist flickers are idiots.

If you don't know how to open a folder without whipping your arm you don't know much about knives.

Of course, there are many on BF that complain about uncentered blades.

If you don't know how to center a blade on your folder maybe you need to start a different hobby.......

Little harsh there Bear, but I'd have to say your not far of the mark.....Kind of like not adjusting your own chain on your bike, of checking your oil. I consider an arm whipper much the same way as one who crosses my 12 while handling a firearm, that kind of behavior is a sure sign of reckless disregard, and deserving of harsh lecture! Also the handing of ones Knife to another is, never an act to be taken lightly, I've had a couple of bad experiences which required the dispensation of both bandaids and stern advice....

A few of you who have crossed paths w/ me IRL know I go gently on your knives...often my first touch of the flipper is not to full deployment...intentionally...for two reasons...it's not my knife! and I'm very much accustom to my own XMs that are setup perfectly for me.

Lol. Im sorry for your floor and your knife. This is why I keep my knives away from wrist flickers lol. They dont have a clue what they are doing and that is almost everybody in my experience. So when someone needs to cut something. I open it for them and make sure they close it after. While I could never spend the money to own an actual XM although I wish I could. The guys at work do the same thing with the ZT version they have. Launching it open as hard as they can as if it does not have bearings.

Sounds like there could of been a pre party going on prior to the unboxing (your friend being uncoordinated, and the you being all chill about it:D). weapons and partying don't mix :thumbdn: Gotta give you credit, you got a great attitude after all this within minutes of seeing your perfect knife evolution80!

:) thanks for your comments everyone!

the broken tip cant be seen in the photo it is only about 0.5mm or half the edge if you will - really hard to photograph (for me at least) i will have the knife professionally resharpened / tip restored

i cant get my hands off this knife!

the xm18 really lives up to its reputation - it flips open effortlessly and the detention is strong - the factory edge is shaving sharp - the ergonomics are outstanding - the knife just feels perfect in hand

i will receive some blue and bronze ti- accessories next week

the only problem is: i now want a wharncliffe and i want black and fde dlc-ed ones!!! :D

better pics soon to follow!

:DOne minute after unboxing it, a friend who was visiting at the time, grabbed my brand new XM18 - used to much force flicking his wrist trying to open it and tossed it across the living room - it hit a glass door and fell on the stone floor....
He would have been in the E.R. after that if it were my knife.

Ouch! Sorry, OP. It doesn't look too bad, as long as it's still pointy you'll be fine. ;)

I had a scary experience that just about turned into what you just had....Went to a friend's store and showed him my new (first) hinderer xm-18 slicer 3.5". He looked at it, said wow holy s@$& this is nice. Proceeds to flip it open, then starts tossing it like a throwing knife and catching it again. My heart shipped a beat, then I looked down at the floor to confirm my fear - yup, unfinished concrete floor. I proceeded to put my hand out and say "hey let me show you something cool" ... He gave it to me and I put it in my pocket (after petting it gently and comforting it, I think it is emotionally scarred from the psychological abuse, and it has told me that I have lost an amount of trust that will only rebuilt in time....)....I then pulled out my user benchmade that I carry as a backup/abuseable knife, handed it to him, and said you can toss this one.

He asked what the hinderer cost me, figured it was maybe two bills. I told him and he went white....was funny after the fact but he no longer gets to see my knives in his own hands

Good for you K84, saving your XM from pending abuse and putting your friend in his place, priceless.

I feel your pain. Was carrying my ZT300 for the first time at a cigar shop when a fellow knife lover asked if he could see it. He wrist flicked it not realizing it had assisted open and it flew across the room chipping the tip when it hit the tile floor. I was pissed, but glad no one was hurt. I am not so quick to let others touch my stuff now.

on the upside i use this knive relatively hard ever since...

the Edge is pretty beat up by now -

I will have it professionally sharpened and the tip restored - then i will get a wicked edge - after i have paid for the new highend pc i just ordered to replace the one that died Last week - darned tablet-surfing btw

:D
