Just got this in the mail today. ML does awesome work, and he really got a nice piece of osage on there. Feels great in hand.

He makes a nice heavy sheath too

Next to my Fiddleback Nessie, which has seen lots of use lately.

I like the forging marks he leaves on, I like that rustic look.

I like the way this pattern of knife doesn't draw any unwanted attention. It doesn't look "dangerous" or weapon like, which is perfect for some of the more crowded trails I hike on. This one also has special meaning because my wife bought it for my birthday  (I ordered it, but she paid :p )

t-- that is an awesome knife.... i love matt's nessie's...:D his leather work is really cool too... simple and functional...:)

Does the fiddleback one thin down before it comes to the Scandi grind or is it all the same thickness ?

Thanks Mike, I like it a lot! Feels remarkable in hand and I love the osage.

It's hard to tell, but it looks like the Fiddleback gets slightly thinner, then drops off to the Scandi. It's a wicked slicer however he did it!

man, too cool what a nice looking knife. And what a beautiful edge!

Please forgive my ignorance but does ML knives and Fiddleback have a site to view their work? Not sure if this is an appropriate question but I really like their work and would like to see more...possibly make a purchase. Good looking knife tknife I enjoy the aged patina/forging on knive blades also.

OOO. I am a big fan of ML knives too! Great snag!!!

I don't have a website yet... but ML does. (I did buy the rights to the domain name... )

I don't know exactly, but the Fiddleback knife is slightly under 1/8" and the ML is a hair over 1/8".

Here's ML's site http://www.mlknives.com/ if you like period knives, don't go here! It's like a candy store :D

Andy, once you get a site up, you will be a busy man!

I have heard a LOT of good things about the ML guy:thumbup:

However I believe FB's from the pictures is much more true to the original Nessmuk Shape.

I also prefer the handle to be wider like on the FB model and the edge to meet the handle for a knife that I am going to use for extended cutting.

The thickness on mine are 3/32. Which is what I think is appropriate on a Nessmuk. I recently made one at 1/8" thick. I like the thinner blade better on this style.

I've been slacking on that damn website too long. But right now everything is still in boxes, and the shop isn't even wired yet...

Thanks for the info guys. I love the nessie blade styles alot. Don't know why?!? Maybe the history of them or that they seem so functional for the mountains/woods. I GOT TO GET MY HANDS ON ONE SOON!

Hello Guys Matt from ML Knives I was just cruising around some of the forums and saw this post....
Thanks for all your kind words, on my work....I make my version of the nessmuk about 1/8' thick, and also make them upon request 3/32" whatever is requested I have and will and have done both...When forging these I do prefer the 1/8" thick but that is just me, either way they leave my shop with a wicked edge...The slight design mod on my version I did so it has a bit of a finger stop..the original is very beautiful...I just always visioned this desing with a bit of a finger choil...(Save those fingers) I have made this design in both my version and the origial..and I love them both...cant beat the Nessmuk...
Thanks again and I hope to be able to post on the forums more when I can..

Hey Matt, glad you could chime in here. As I usually do with a new field knife I've been using it around the house, mostly in the kitchen. Slices and dices like a dream, but I knew it would. The belly works amazing on meat, just one continuous curve! I like how the osage handle really sticks to my hand, even when wet. I still need to get outside and cut some wood and other fiberous stuff, but I am more than impressed with this knife.

Glad to see ya here as well Matt. Lets see I bought two of your knives so far. I'm sure there will be more. Stay awhile you'll fit right in:D

My best Nessmuk from Dale Chudzinski is 3/32.

That dude is like a vapor! I was very interested in one of his nessmuk knives but he had an extremely bad reputation around here at the time. I think he screwed quite a few people over. Too bad as I really wanted one of his knives.

Awesome knife. Glad to see Matt getting some press on this site. As a long time Backwoodsman magazine reader, I've like his work for awhile. I've been looking at his site - knife porn I guess I'd call it. He has some great work and it is affordable. I love Osage handles, I'll probably order one next week.

What do you guys think about a lanyard hole on one of these?
