I got my new Ranger RD7 in the mail yesterday. It is definitely my new camp knife. It's terrifically balanced right where the blade meets the usable choil. It has a great weight that makes it smoke right through just about anything. The handle is big, but for me that's ideal due to my big hands. The 5160 they use takes an awesome edge and holds it. I used a sharpening method that New Pig Hunter turned me onto with a leather strop and green paste. It gave it a hair popping edge in a few minutes. Then I took it down to the garage and started whacking everything I could find to destroy with it, part of a table, a bunch of wood crates, an old chair, a broken motorcycle fairing, etc. It tore everything to pieces with the greatest of ease and when I was done, it still had a satanic edge on it. I even used it like a crowbar to lever some stuff to pieces, no problem. I was very impressed. I can't wait to take it camping. The only problem I had was with the sheath. The sheath was a good thought, but not worthy of the knife. The knife is just a hair long than the plastic sleeve in the sheath so right off the bat the blade stabbed through the bottom. It would make a decent sheath for something else, but not for that knife. It's usable but not ideal. I think I'll be investing in a kydex VERY soon. Other than that, awesome work. I love it. I highly recomend it to anyone who wants a good big sturdy camp knife.

I really like the sheaths from onscenetactical, but they have a side note next to their RD7 sheath that says "old style". What's the difference between the old RD7 and the new one? I'd love to have one of their RD7 sheaths and a RAT-7 sheath, but I want to make sure I get the right thing. Anybody have any input on this?

this is old style RD7;

Congrats on your Ranger, they are work-horses!

I love mine, I still have to put a convex edge on it. I really like the old style blade shape, but the new style looks great with the recurve blade, which I got for my RD9.
And yeah can't beat the service, customize it any way you want too!

Thanks for the pic. That's a good looking knife.

your welcome bro. I do like the new style but have to have spear point and Justin is a pleasure to do business with, he's a class act and none better, and he likes it when you use/beat his blades, enjoy!

Ilbruche is going to pimp my RD7 with anboyna grips and a strip job. Rangers don't need any help to be good working knives IMHO, but they dress up nice. I'll post a pic when it is done!

The old style has a spear point, the new one a clip point.

Just received my RD4 and RD6 sheath with firesteel loop. All I can say: AWESOME work from Eric/Normark!

He's a real Kydex master, and delivers top notch sheaths. He's just like Justin (from Ranger knives) a pleasure to deal with.

Just do yourself a favour, and get a sheath from Eric!

Eric, just sent you an email. Thanks bro.

Yep. My RD9 and Custom Bush Shiv from Ranger both wear pants from Eric. In my humble opinion, the combination of Ranger steel and Normark Concealex is a VERY tough combination to beat.

I guess I gotta show off my new Ranger Afghan...I suppose here is as good as anywhere!

Stout as hell, this knife.
