I got my new Ranger RD7 in the mail yesterday. It is definitely my new camp knife. It's terrifically balanced right where the blade meets the usable choil. It has a great weight that makes it smoke right through just about anything. The handle is big, but for me that's ideal due to my big hands. The 5160 they use takes an awesome edge and holds it. I used a sharpening method that New Pig Hunter turned me onto with a leather strop and green paste. It gave it a hair popping edge in a few minutes. Then I took it down to the garage and started whacking everything I could find to destroy with it, part of a table, a bunch of wood crates, an old chair, a broken motorcycle fairing, etc. It tore everything to pieces with the greatest of ease and when I was done, it still had a satanic edge on it. I even used it like a crowbar to lever some stuff to pieces, no problem. I was very impressed. I can't wait to take it camping. The only problem I had was with the sheath. The sheath was a good thought, but not worthy of the knife. The knife is just a hair long than the plastic sleeve in the sheath so right off the bat the blade stabbed through the bottom. It would make a decent sheath for something else, but not for that knife. It's usable but not ideal. I think I'll be investing in a kydex VERY soon. Other than that, awesome work. I love it. I highly recomend it to anyone who wants a good big sturdy camp knife.
