Mike - Something else to play with is, "Painting with Light". Get a flashlight and go to town. Artsy results, but it can be fun.
Or a laser pointer. With those it's really cool to shoot things that absorb and disperse the light, like your hand...

Joshua - I have never tried a laser. Sounds like fun! I will give it a shot some time. Thanks.
Thanks for all your help guys. I really gotta sit here and check out the manual for the camera, I haven't even opened it yet!
I also bought a Nikon D5000 and it came with the kit 18-55mm lens. It really is a nice camera, easy to use and still gives you all the options of a DSLR. I also bought a 70-300mm lens but found myself changing lenses often and it was a pain in the ass. I finally settled on a 18-270mm Tamron lens and I use that 95% of the time. It really is a great 'all around' lens and perfect for what I need.
One thing I really enjoy about the D5000 is you can take pictures in a high ISO without too much grainy pixels(noise) and without a flash....very very handy.
I think my next purchase is a flash, maybe a SB100 for portability or SB400. Have fun!
having some fun with the post processing eh?![]()
I actually had a talk with Ank about this and he said with the cheaper lenses he really needs to boost his settings also. Whatever works for your style
I like rich colors that pop but I try to get that with good cameras, good glass, good lighting, proper exposure and a 100 ISO, which on my camera really deepens the contrast ;-)
All cameras and lenses shoot and process differently. I would just have fun, find what works for you and enjoy the art.
