I've become a fan of Spyderco of late ... finally see the light I suppose :)
I've got/had Benchmades, Kershaws, SOGs, etc, etc. Haven't been into knives long at all in comparison to most of you, just wanted to say thanks for all the posts here, helped me narrow-down the Spyderco for me ... I've just traded off a Combo Tenacious that I was really surprised by (tremendous value), got a NIB Lone Wolf Diablo straight-up. Yes I'll sell the Diablo, get a new PE Tenacious and pocket a couple bucks. Anyway, I'm babbling...

I LOVE the Para! I admit I'm generally fan of heavier, lined blades (wasn't really happy with a Camo Aegis I just sold, ie; no liner, very light) and was somewhat concerned that I might not dig the Para, I do realize there is at least some liner in there. Figured I'd take a chance :) LOVE it. Really enjoy the size, weight and the compression lock as well. I think the G-10 texture is spot on. Other than my mini grip, this is a rare knife for me; it's a keeper! Very few knives stay in my possession long it seems.

I suppose a Military is next ... I'm really trying to work my way into a RC-5 though as I'm kinda short on the heavy duty survival side .. a LMF II that I'll probably also get rid of.

What are the differences in the para and the millie? Yes, I know about the liner lock/size/steel diff's, I'm looking more for input on the feel of the knife, ergo's, etc? Is it as solid feeling as the para?

Input is appreciated and thanks again for all the great info on the site.

enjoy! as soon as I got into Spyderco knives(it hasn't been that long) I noticed the D2 para, and wanted it from the start. it didn't take long for me to break down and buy one and this knife is awesome. the handle is a bit big for the blade, but not too bad. the look and feel of the handle however are great, I love the foliage green color. after the D2 para I have bought a bunch of other spyderco's and even a CRK, but I think that my next knife will absolutely definitely positively be a Spyderco military. I really would love one with CF handles but I think the G-10 is great.

oh and I forgot to say... use your para military! I've had this thing for a few months now and found it hard to use it. I was afraid to get any scuffs or marks on it. however I started carrying it for heavier use(i use a CF caly3 for normal EDC) and it handles great. don't be afraid to get it dirty, it wants to cut!

Thanks for the reply. I too wondered about the blade/handle ratio, but glad I took the plunge, it handles so well, choke-up is great for delicate work imho.

As far as more Spyderco's? Another Tenacious as I said, Caly 3 and/or a Native are looking interesting :)

i got a para recently, too. i was hesitant about the weight, but got used to it later. did yours come with slight blade play?

here's my para i named after a friend, MEGA:

VERY slight BP, tweak of the pivot, still great action and Zero play.

To me they feel similar just a bigger feel, with almost no weight gain! I started liking the PM better but now that I've had it a while I put them even.

Spyderco's CPM D2 has performed excellent for me in my Millie. The steel sharpens up very crisp and gets wickedly sharp. I was priveledged enough to be able to test a CPM D2 Military before they were released thanks to a former member on this board, and it performed so well compared to a custom knife with very hard D2 that I bought my own CPM D2 Military as soon as they were released. I much prefer it over S30V because of how great it sharpens up for me and holds an edge. I like the steel so much I even have a Tom Krein custom coming to me this week made of CPM D2 at 61 RC. I'm not sure how hard Spyderco runs it, but they sure got the heat treat right whatever hardness it is. I may send mine out to get Rockwell tested just out of curiousity, but I have learned after sending out a previous batch of knives to be tested that harder isn't always better when it comes to knives and heat treatments.

I really like my Para. EDC rotation is: Para, Small Sebbie and Kershaw OD-1.
Had Steve @ STR do a tip up carry.

I still love my D2 Para and now I just have to get a standard Para and a Mili at some point.

I finally got a very lightly used D2 Para Miitary, in trade, and mine came with some blade play as well. I was able to adjust the pivot to get rid of the horizontal play, but it still has some vertical play. It looks to me that the lock bar isn't going far enough into the tang, and I'm hoping with use, the lockbar will wear into place, time will tell. All in all it is a very nice knife, nice ergo's, and I'm curious to see how the D2 performs.
