I love this knife! If I can ever get it sharp, it's going to be my new EDC. The fit and finish are very nice indeed, right up there with what you guys have been advertising. I got the black handled one, and it's a beauty. Not too heavy, but not flimsy feeling at all.

It was not sharp at all...man, I hate that:thumbdn:...so, I'm off to buy some new wet/dry sandpaper because I convex sharpen. From the little bit that I did tonight, I can tell it's going to take me a while to get it to the edge that I like. How is it that they can put those perfect little nail nicks into their blades, but they can't get even a decent edge on their blade?

I will persevere, and this will be my new favorite knife...it's just going to take a while. :grumpy:

Yeah, it took my awhile to get my queen gunstock where i liked it. dont let it get dull once you finally get it sharpened or it will be a train wreck all over again.

I have a Queen Sodbuster that I like very much. It is a very well made knife with a strong but not nail breaker back spring. The edge was TERRIBLE but a few minutes on my Norton 12 inch India stone and it was razor sharp. I have not bought any Queen knives since because of the bad factory edges Queen puts on it's knives. i bought several Queens at the same time and all the edges were dull and too thick. If Queen corrects the edge problem on there knives I will buy more. Queen makes a well made knife.

I ended up buying a set of DMT stones for my Cattle King. I found that I could sharpen it using my India stone, but I couldn't get the edge I wanted. I get a pretty decent edge on the DMTs.

DMT's diamond hones followed by ceramic works for me.

Which ceramic?

I do not find the DMT ceramic adds anything to the final hone.
It is part of the DMT Aligner jig
Perhaps it is this specific ceramic

Or perhaps I am trying to polish D2

Neeman,

I have found DMT's ceramic to be wanting. Spyderco's ceramic (in fine, medium and ultra-fine grits) is infinitely better imho. The Sharpmaker would be a nice "finisher" for blades that have come off the diamond hones and jig. But that is just my personal preference. (I use Spyderco's ceramic bench stones, "double-stuff", "pro-files" or occasionally the Sharpmaker depending upon the given application.)

Congrats on your new knife, keep chewing you will get there.......:)

Chewed on it at 180 grit for a while, then moved up the ladder to eventually 2000 grit. Then a stropping. Oh, yeah, this bad boy is going to be kicking a lot of more expensive knives out of my pocket. I really like the ergos on it.

The D2 was stubborn, and I went through a lot of wet/dry sandpaper. What!? I don't have anything fancier, and so far haven't needed it. (I also don't have cable TV. I have "low def" TV

The back spring is a little tight, but I'll leave it half-open for a few hours or overnight and it'll be just dandy. :D:D
