The 20" Sirupati arrived today. It's one of the 'muscular' ones I think...a bit over 21" long, and 7/16ths' thick. Weighs 2 lbs. 3 oz. The Karda is a nicely beveled 7 ins. overall, with a four-inch and a bit blade. Very usable. And some nice graining in the karda's horn handle. A couple of minor quibbles...a very tight sheath (no quick draws here for a while!) and a one-inch crack next to the bolster on the big knife (PO or Reno dryness? Who knows) Thank goodness for super glue. I have run a ceramic rod along the edges, bringing up very good sharpness and indications of a fine temper in both khukuri and karda. Nice to be a full-fledged member of the HI brotherhood at last! :0

1" crack? That is very big! I think you will need a good epoxy.

Try oiling the blade, it will help to prevent rust and making drawing much easier.

If that knife had stayed here in Reno more than the single day the knife would have been epoxied by Pala. I can't keep knives in inventory anymore. They are going the next day after I receive them.

Pound faster, boys. Hire more masters, Geblu! More sarkis, too! Build another addition. Ayo BirGorkha!

By the way, the Sirupati should perform really well. The extra weight and length really improves chopping. I also believe the length helps to dampen vibration.

Will: the crack was an inch long, not an inch wide! <grin> No epoxy needed. I had weather cracks on my ivory Randall Bowie, too. Superglue will stop the cracking, and buffs out to a nice gloss. You can see the crack, but hopefully it won't go anywhere. Thanks to you all for the advice. Nice group in this forum, for sure.

Sorry I misunderstood the dimensions.

I started with Superglue on my horn handles. I too have not had any problems with hairline cracks continuing tho grow.

Be careful when you use it. Still nothing definitive on why I had breathing problems. But I was using a lot of cyanoacrylate glue (superglue) at the time.
