Got my son a gift to give to his Vietnam vet grandfather..

My thoughts:

1) My Father-in-law lost a knife his father had given him years ago. He was very upset and nothing could replace it. I got a knife for my daughter to give him - he loved it. Fast forward 15 years and he has brain cancer and isn't always "quite right". In his current state he recently mentioned that knife my daughter gave him 15 years ago, telling me how much it meant a lot to him.

2) (Not to get political, but) Vietnam Veterans did not get the respect that they earned and deserved back in the day. Truly Forgotten Heroes.

What a grand thing to do. You know it’ll always be special and remembered.
Thanks, Neal

Awesome gift. Don't get your feelings hurt if he wants to "keep it new" and continues to carry his old knife. Sometimes us old folks get attached to our used knives.

My grandfather in his WWI army uniform, proudest photo he owned.

He looks so young I wouldn't let him rent a rated R movie! If I may politely ask, how old was he in that photo?

Roscoe Clifford Caldwell (mom's dad) was born 30 Oct 1894, so he had to be 20+ years old. He was still spry and had hair when he passed at 86. He had a major impact on me as he was the one to take me hunting / fishing when my dad was either working or sleeping.

You're grandfather definitely look pretty young.
Not sure when my grandfather was born, but here's a picture of him on Christmas 1944. I don't know the name of the place, but based on the writing on the back I believe this was taken outside the bar he ran in France.
