Got my Zing!

Got my olive drab Zing from Dave today. As I've heard from others, the only thing I can find qualifying it as a blem would be a couple light scratches in the black coating on the blade. Hardly a concern since I plan to EDCing it.

This is only my second USA made Kershaw so my Kershaw Ener-G is all I have to compare. I do like the look, fit and finish, and ergos of this knife. So far I am liking the angled thumb studs. I wish the flipper were a little larger and it doesn't want to fling open like my Ener-G without quite a bit of wrist action.

Overall I am very happy with the knife and the service of KershawGuy, but I hope the blade loosens up just a bit. I know I can probably adjust the pivot screw but I don't really feel super comfortable messing with stuff like that yet.

I love my black-bladed tanto zing. Fits my hand perfectly. I wish the ramped thumbstuds were a bit "taller", if that makes sense. The blade should just loosen up over time. Sit down and watch T.V. while flicking it open.

One thing I forgot to mention..

I've seen a lot of folks mention they don't like tanto blades for EDC.. would anyone who feels that way care to share why? This is my first knife with a tanto blade so I am not sure how I will feel about it yet. As far as tantos go, this one seems to be more ...obtuse? than some of the others so maybe that will help.

My zing was also my first tanto bladed knife. I personnally don't like tanto bladed knives, because it seems like I'm cutting right where the tanto starts. I also don't like it, because I like my Skyline little bit better.

A lot of peoples objection is because they are hard to sharpen properly.

If you have have a guided system like a Lansky it's pretty easy. I personally just prefer how a regular drop-point or leaf blade slices, I wouldn't mind a tanto too much if the rest of the knife was good though.

A curved blade is much more versatile, but for the tasks I perform most frequently (tape/strap/box cutting), it makes a great EDC. I actually prefer it over my skyline... except for the clip.

I need to pick up a tanto zing, another one on my list. Its a cool edc.

Tantos may not be the best slicers but they excel at piercing :)

Sorry guys I will see about getting some pics. Unfortunately my computer is terrible piece of trash so my internet use is strictly smart phone these days and this forum isn't very smart phone friendly. I will make it happen, though.

Disclaimer: Some of you are really good at taking awesome pictures of knives. I am not.

I am definitely in the boat of taking really crappy pictures.

If you haven't, try tapatalk, works great for browsing

I like a good tanto. I had the zt 0400 as my first one and used it for 4 yrs. or so as my main edc and for work. I found that there was never anything I couldn't do with it. I think the cutting food was the one thing that was a little difficult but I could still do it.

I added one picture to the OP. The "jewelry box" in the picture is something I picked up from craigslist to kind of store my knives in for now. Obviously it wont fit too many, but right now it has my AK-47, Tremor, and a SOG multi-tool on top. In the bottom is my Ener-G, Select Fire, and Zing. But normally my Select Fire is in my work pants pocket and one of the Zing or EnerG is in my regular pocket so it should last a few more knives before I need to change it up.

Is the easiest way to post photos on this forum to host them on an image hosting site and then insert the URL link? That's a cumbersome task from a smartphone. I really gotta fix my computer.

The photobucket app makes it really easy.

+1 for the photobucket app. Its practically seemless, like 5 steps.

I am using the photobucket app and tapatalk which makes it pretty easy to post one picture. My problem is I can only copy 1 IMG link at a time so when I am making a post I have to keep switching back and forth between the two apps and saving my post. Am I missing something that makes it easier?

I got the same (OD Zing) from Kershawguy as well. Just arrived yesterday. I was going to transplant the grooved blade from my regular Zing into that. I thought the scales on the OD Zing would be FRN but was pleasantly surprised to find they were G10. :)
