I've wanted to try out the Szabo folder ever since it came out but whenever I was in the market for a new knife, something else popped up. Well I finally sealed the deal with another forum member a few days ago for a Szabo and it got here today. Wow! I knew the knife was going to be large but it still shocked me when I opened the box. This thing a a giant.

It's pretty tough to open as of right now but I have a plan to alleviate that problem soon (Keep an eye out for a thread regarding that soon) I totally dig the looks. The gold line CF is gorgeous and really adds some zazz to the knife. I feel like it would be really bland had they opted for the regular peel-ply black G-10.

That's about it for now. I plan on updating this thread with pics and a fairly long term report on how this knife performs. I just thought I'd show off this beauty. Please feel free to share your Szabo pics and impressions.

Laci Szabo's logo (very cool!)

Sweet grab Will! Gorgeous and deadly in the same package. If they made a smaller one I'd be all over it.

Thanks! I feel the same way, if they made a mini version with an integral lock or even the compression lock that's on the Goliath I'd be all over it.

Nice knife!

I'll take it when you get bored with it Will... LOL! ;):D

Evan

I hate to say it but that probably will happen eventually. I want to keep all the cool knives I get but after awhile I get this urge to try something else. It's pretty ridiculous:D

How hard is it to open?

It's definitely not Para 2 smooth by any means but it's not a total bear either. Once the guy I traded with gets his end of the deal and gives me the okay, I'm gonna tear her apart, remove the self close feature and drill a detent hole.

Cool knife and great pictures. Mine should come in tomorrow. It looks real nice. I think a version with a smaller 3.5" blade would really sell. Initially, I got interested in the black blade with CF scales like on the Domino but it'll probably be a few more months so I sprung for the current version.

I would also love to see a smaller version that does not have a self close mechanism. I sold mine because it was somewhat impractical to carry, and almost to open. Sign me up for a preorder when the smaller version is made!!!

My Szabo came in a day early! It's BIG but I have no issues opening / closing it one-handed.

Here's a size comparison picture from top to bottom: Szabo, Military, Bradley, Southard, Domino, Caly 3 & Air Bradley.

Great pics and comparisons, Ramzar:thumbup: I'm not too big on the CF on the black bladed Szabo but I feel like the black blade in the gold line CF handles of the regular one would look terrific.

I'm really enjoying the Szabo so far. The self close mechanism is sort of annoying but definitely not a deal breaker. I do plan on removing it when I get the O.K from the former owner though.

Holy Super Size Batman! That makes the Millie look puny! I love the looks, but the Millie has the largest blade that I can legally carry here in Oklahoma.

A smaller version would be awesome!

I agree! Maybe we can get Spyderco to make a mini Szabo someday. Stranger things have happened. I just hope they leave the self close thing out of the mini.

Would love to see step-by-step pics of this... Always fun to see the innards of these things.

Of course! I plan on doing a step-by-step process of me taking it apart. Should be later on today if all goes to plan.

I got one of those about a month ago and mine was also very hard to open and close. So I was trying to break it in by opening and closing it a few times and then I heard a loud snap and a washer fell out of it in 2 pieces. Now the only way I can close it is to push a pin in with a screwdriver. I will be glad to see the pics of your knife taken apart. View attachment 374399
Here's a pic of the knife with the washer that fell out.

Dang! That's weird. I'll have to look at the spot were that one broke and see if there is a weak point or something that may have caused that. Is that a signature on the box?

Yes sir it was signed by Szabo.
I guess that didn't help the knife any!

The inside of the Szabo is not like most knives that we see. I remember seeing a thread somewhere in which someone had disassembled one and it looked crazy.

I used to have one, but the sheer size of the thing made it too ridiculous to carry.

I'm 100% sure I wouldn't carry the thing, yet every time I see photos I have the urge to buy one. Does that count as a mental illness?
