Got New Knife, and Wife is PISSED !

B, why did you choose the Busses? BTW, the Mean Street and Badger Attack are addicting to carry.

I became engaged to the best woman in the world last November and all has gone great....
until she found out I was buying another knife.
I justified it with the fact that I sold one of my other knives and would actually use this new one. She didn't bite...
She made me sign a "contract" that says I will not buy another knife until the year 2001...
This is only January 15th...
man, I have a while to wait!
Jess
P.S. She handles ALL of my finances...ALL of them!!

Crowinghorse,
This does not sound healthy! What happens if she makes you "re-up" for another year come December 2000?

if I take care of my responsibilities first and use common sense, why should I have to hide anything from my wife. She aint my mother. Been married 21 years, but dont think I would be if I had to hide things. She's my partner, not the boss!
No offense intended(honest), but if she's controlling your finances and making you sign contracts before you're even married,uh oh, look out.

"War to the knife and knife to the hilt"

Lifer hit it on the head, the women are WIVES not mommies! If you are slinking around hiding purchases made with your own money from your wife, than something is really wrong with your relationship. No offense meant but you guys need to get it together. Unless you are spending the rent/mortgage/food money the purchase of a knife is nothing to be ashamed of, especially if you are the one bringing home the money!

"How do I stop this thing?"

Guys, I've got a different approach. I tell my wife waht I'm loooking for. Keep her updated on the shopping and proudly announce the deal I got. AND THEN (this is the key part) I either take her out to dinner or buy her a little something when the knife arrives. She looks forward to my new knives and actually acts interested.

Try it, you'll like it. Chris

I have to agree with Ric and some of the others. I don't believe in lyin' about stuff. I got 8 new guns this past year ( 2 kimber 1911's , a springfield 1911 , an HK tactical , 2 glocks , a bushmaster AR HBAR , and tricked out 10/22 ) along with 4 new blades , Emerson CQC7 , Spyderco Endura , BM Stryker and MOD Hornet. She wasn't real happy to be sure.. but I had the extra cash..worked alot of extra time for it.. and she knew what was comin' and what the deal was..no surprises. Not to sound too off the wall here.. but I believe that how a man lives his life and what he really stands for is more important than how much money he makes.. or how much he owns or whatever. I'm not makin' any judgements here, because I'm not walking in your shoes, but for me, being honest is the best way. I might sound a bit old fashioned..but so far at least, I have an awesome relationship with my wife. We've been together for over 18 years she's dealt with alot.. as have I being with her..but after all we've been through together..I figure the least I can do is not lie to her. She doesn't like everything I do.. but she knows she won't get blindsided by anything either. And in the end.. I'd take my family , wife and kids , over a new knife or new gun anyday. So it's just a matter of priority. Just my two cents worth.

Not to be mean or anything, but do the letters P.W. mean anything.

If you are bring home the $$ and not living off of her $$ than
Lifter hit it. Your wife is your partner, NOT the boss.

You need to take care of food and shelter first. Then the other things that are needed. You should never do anything that is a MAJOR investment or life changing decision without talking to your wife and getting her thoughts. But, there can only be one boss and that should be you. You are accountable to God for these things.

I too am sorry that it seems you are headed for a divorce before you are even married. If this is the way she is and will not move in her mindset.

Think LONG AND HARD.

Crowinghorse,
I refrained from saying it earlier, but now that Pyrguy has brought it out in the open, P.W. was my first thought too.

From your posts, I know that you're soon off to basic training. Use that time away to do some serious thinking about your relationship. She may well be as wonderful as you think, but if you two aren't equal partners, your marriage won't last.

I've been married for 23 yrs. and probably
don't have the "perfect" marriage - but who
does? "Marriage" and "perfection" are a
contradiction of terms, IMHO. I don't mind
lieing to my wife about frivolous purchases,
but why should I? I don't chide my wife when
she buys herself a new toy, and I demand the
same treatment in return. Why be married if
if you're both not reasonably happy with the
relationship. Crowinghorse, new love has
probably clouded all our abilities to make
sensible judgements at some time or another,
but your impending marriage sounds to me like
more of a sentence handed down by a very
mean and vindictive judge. Lots of luck.

Let me explain:
She and I have been seeing each other since we were in alegabra classes together in high school.
She has been with me through hell and high water. I have (since we began seeing eachother) bleeched my hair blonde, pierced my ears in 7 different places at one time, worn my hair real long, shaved my head, tattooed my arm and back, pierced other parts of my body (parts that should not be named here!-THAT HURT! What we do when we are young! and stupid!)
I feel like I am the lucky one in this relationship. Anyways, I think it is my guilty consious that made the contract up...
I have spent WAY too much on knives in the last year and I will be leaving for MCRD in 6 days. She has agreed to keep all of my guns, knives, toys, videos, comics, and books at her place until I get back.
She has agreed to pay off my bills, stay in college, finish school, and then MARRY me...
I say she is the "best woman" in the world.
I have decided I am the one who really doesn't have a need for any knives until 2001!
Anyhow, after getting this new knife, I really DO NOT think there is anything I can't handle...
My hard use knives:
1. My Mad Dog ATAK (painted black with Rustoleum-works great!)
2. My Busse Steel Heart Varient w/ 4" clip point, 1.5" of LARGE tooth serrations, and a 7.5" blade of INFI! Toughest damned knife I have ever seen! Thanks, Mr.Andy Prisco!
3. Randall Made #16-7" Special Fighter w/ cutdown custom #1 style hilt and Border Patrol micarta handle. Custom Concealex Sheath by Normark (On/Scene Tactical-I can't wait!)

With these three knives, I need very few others. My dad has said he will get me a Spyderco Military for my B-day if I want...
and I can always borrow from him if I need to...
Hope this helps clear it up...
man, I need to learn to listen and keep my mouth shut...6 more days...
Jess

Well, I have been there and done that too. I have been married 3 times and I loved each one enough to marry. I am sure my little head had a lot to do with all the decisions I have made in my life. By the time you are old enough to think right, you will probably have a couple of very nice children and will have helped to propagate the species. Don't worry about a thing. If you think your happy, your happy.
I have asked my father why he never gave me advice about women. He said it wouldn't do any good. You fall down when you learn to walk. It is just a different kind of falling down. Take care and good luck in your life. Always make the decisions based on what you know at the time. And never be afraid to change your mind when you have more facts.
Take care and God Bless You.

Crowinghorse,

Some of us totally overboard, out of control types need the calming, balancing support that a good women can provide. There is nothing wrong about that. I'm glad you think you have found 'the best women in the world'. She sounds wonderful.

Some of the other posters here seem to be reacting your comments about giving up control over your finances and decisions to your soon-to-be wife. That is not a good idea in my opinion. Many women want to 'change' us guys from what we are to what they want us to be.

My woman also harbored similar delusions for a time. Now we both realize that we need each other so both of us can be Whole. And neither of us is anything like what we imagined we would become twenty years ago. Life is about change and responsibility for living right. I think it's OK if you need to make 'a contract' to help control your impulses (knives or anything else). But the best marriages are based on mutual respect and love. Neither of you can ever give up control or responsibility for your own actions. Or the marriage will not work.

Good luck,

Paracelsus

I don't think of it as "giving up control" as much as I do "letting her help."
I will be away for a while...

13 weeks boot camp-MCRD S.D.
10 days leave
6 weeks School of Infantry-0300 Infantry

Hoping to run Recon Indoc at SOI. If I make Recon, I can look forward to:

Recon Indoc Platoon (RIP)-4 weeks
Amphib Recon School- 8-10 weeks
Airborne School-3 weeks
Scuba/Combat Diver School-8 weeks
Ranger School-10 weeks
Survival Evasion Recovery Escape (SERE)-3 weeks
as well as a host of others like: Close Quarters Battle (CQB), Sniper/Scout, SBS w/ Royal Marines, etc...

I figure if my fiancee is willing to take care of MY responsiblities (paying off credit card, paying on school loans, etc.) while I am away, I am the one who owes her...
I will still be able to spend MY money, just as she is able to spend HER money...only she will be using my money to pay off my bills while I am away.
I have trusted her for the last 4 years...

She and I have discussed this and plan to marry soon after she is finished with school (Oct. 01, she graduates May 01)
She is a true gift from God IMHO...

Besides, we have a "date" to go shooting Thursday!
How many of us can say we involve our "significant others" in the hobbies we love?

Now if she would only carry a knife...
