Got some questions regarding Striders

Hello everyone.

Well I should be starting a new job next week and I want to start putting aside money for my first mid-tech. I've done a ton of researching and thinking and I think I want a Strider PT. It's not too expensive, It seems pretty small (I like smaller knives) and I love the looks. I just a few questions before I commit to that knife.

Are they still making the PTs?
Are they only using s30v in them?
Could someone who owns one chime in and let me know how you like yours?
Do they all come with pocket clips? I've seem some with them and some without so I don't know.
What's your preference for the handle? CC or Lego?

I appreciate any advice you gents can share.

I think one dealer is taking orders. The CC models don't have clips I think. April or May delivery. I don't have one and have never held one so I can't answer anything else.

I would probably just go with an SNG, you can find them for decent prices, it's not that large, and you get a much wider swath of options available.

Ah, the CC ones not having clips makes sense. I think all the ones I saw W/O clips were CC. Could you maybe PM me the dealer that's taking preorders? I'd appreciate it.

I really do want an SnG but I'm kind of on the fence about it. I'll have to wait till I get a better grasp on what my income is going to be with the new job. The SnGs with the 3/4 grind, green lego G10 and flamed Ti are amazing!

Also, Does anyone know if they only use DLC for the coatings? I've seen it called something else so I wasn't sure.

I believe that the PT is temporarily (at least) out of production. I've had two: one is a CC which does NOT come with a clip and CANNOT be modified to have a clip.
The other one is a G10 Lego surface which DOES come standard with a clip. They are both good, but I have no use for a knife without a pocket-clip, so I sold that one long ago. Be careful what you buy. See PICS of the clip, or at least verify. Could be a nasty surprise, otherwise.

I like a PT just fine. I've had perhaps 5 or 6 Sng's and don't like them nearly as much as the SJ75. The SJ75 is next larger to the PT and is a great folder. It is very sleek; it has a clip, of course, and a very nice leaf-shaped blade. The cutting edge of the blade is the same as on the Sng. I'll take a SJ75 (or a PT) for office carry.
The Sng and the SMF, of course, are for rougher use and/or larger hands.

MY opinion...

Thanks for the pic mjolnir. The SnG looks like a better size overall. That's a nice looking one BTW:thumbup:

I really can't warm up to the looks of the SJ75. The handle is sexy but the blade just doesn't do it for me. I'm kind of apprehensive about the clip because, like you, I will not carry a knife without a clip. Just can't do it.

I guess the SnG is my new grail. It's going to be hard to drop that much money on it but I've wanted one for a few years now so I think now is as good a time as any.

Anyone got some more pics of their Striders? Knife porn is never a bad thing.

You really have to hold an SJ75 to get it. It is a strong bird, but it works in hand. I miss mine. I only sold it because I hate brown Striders.

PT's should be hitting the market soon. Believe it! I have a PT Tanto CC and a regular lego version. I carry the CC daily in a sheath on my belt and you don't even know it's there. It rides edc with my RW-1. The PT's slice like lasers too.

I would be hesitant about buying a PT if you've never handled one in person. It's very very small-- with the built in-finger choil it makes the cutting edge length too small in my honest opinion.

I think the Sng fits the bill perfectly for a smallish/mid-size folder. Get an SnG CC and you'll be totally set! Either way, good luck in your search. Let us know what you get and how you like it!

Just scored a ranger green one with cpm154cm steel AND anodized green Ti. The best part is the anodizing is covered u dear warranty. So, as of right now I have a one of a kind.

You won't regret the SnG! It is the only knife I own that occasionally kicks the ZTs out of my pocket.

The PT is teenie weenie. Crazy small. Get an SnG or a Sm. Sebenza. They both have just under a 3" cutting edge. Or if you want something a tad bigger, a Lg Sebenza!

Dang SO that orange SnG is amazing! I bet it looks even better in person.

So I think the PT is pretty much totally out of the picture. It'll be harder to get. From what people are saying, it's extremely small, and the SnG comes in a bunch more options as far as steel, handles and grinds go. Now I just got to narrow it down to one.

I would get a Sebenza and will eventually but I like CPM-154 much more than s30v so I think the SnG is going to be the one for me ATM. I do want a Sebenza 25 though. Those are nice!
