Got the seax yesterday

Its really a nice knife. Its got a wood handle, all my other HI stuff is horn. I actually think I like the wood better. I haven't really done anything with it. Hopefully this weekend I will try it outside with the AK Bowie.

It feels very well balanced. It was a blem, but t here is really only a little spot of rust that shouldn't take any time to polish out. Like my other HI stuff, it came with a blade that was sharp, but not really sharp. The point is wicked though!.

The sheath leaves something to be desired. Not quality wise mind you, but it doesn't seem very practical. How do you carry it? Also, it does not retain the seax well. I picked it up by the sheath and the seax slid out and took a nice gouge out of the linoleum in the bathroom floor. Like I said, that point is wicked. Luckily, my wife just ordered new tile for the bathroom, so she likely won't care.

I don't have a seax, but it looks like it was designed for headband carry. Just looking at it, it looks like it was made for wearing horizontally on the side of your head.

I didn't get much sleep last night though.
 ;) :)

Hey, are you calling me a flathead? :p Maybe when I go Rambo I can tie it to my head with a bandana.

yes....the sheath is its downfall.....but I don't have the energy to try to correct it. It was supposed to be carried like a paul chen scramasax....

Re: pointy seax

just be glad it wasn't your toes...! !

It's a devilishly pointy/stabby knife.......makes me think Bruise would really like it....;)

I think someone here undid the stitching on the loops and repositioned them? I might try that (and flip it to edge-up and add a brass or copper band on the sheath) when mine gets here. :)

Carrying a seax is easy.... don't sheath it. Just walk around with it in hand with your shoulders hunched and grunt and growl at your neighbors. this will solve your sheathing problems, and it will keep the nosey neighbor from popping in unexpectedly. i'm also pretty sure the guy next door would returnt he weedeater posthaste lest you carry off his teenage daughter over your should Viking style;)

Jake...I told you to quit looking in my windows!

BTW....where's my weedeater?

For such an odd-looking (to me, anyway) knife, I think that seax is really intriguing. I think if another blem comes along at a price like that and I'm fast enough on the draw, I'll grab one. I can't think of a real use for it but it just has a certain look...maybe that's my Teutonic heritage speaking to some long-suppressed genetic memory.

More likely, it's just me trying to rationalize another HI purchase. :D

Anyone used any of these hard out in the field? I'm interested in hearing about how they perform. They look great for poking and pretty good for chopping. The scabbard's a bit odd but so are the standard khukri scabbards. (Again, to me.) Improvise, adapt and overcome.

Congratulations on your purchase, Shann. Use it hard and let me know how it works for you.

Shann?

Couldn't you just drill a hole in the upper corner of the top of the sheath and insert a key-ring circle in it? Then tie off the circle on a brass ring snap, and hook it to a belt loop? The blade weight would certainly hold it down and in.

Sort of a dangle sheath? How much running you going to do with it on, anyway?

All the best.

you guys are lucky. it takes me about a month to get mine. right now my 12" AK special is sitting on someone's desk at customs for over a week now.
They have to determine whether a khukuri is capable of detonation.

yet if i send something to you guys, it usually takes 2 weeks. faster if i use express.

oh mark my words, one day a potential employee's resume whose career was in gov't will pass before my desk and than we shall see how they cut it in the private sector.

please ignore the above rant, i'm droning on again.

Running? If you saw me you would know exactly how much :D

I didn't actually put it on the belt. It just seemed to me that it was set for horizontal carry, and was really loose. Not a great combination. A dangle sheath would generally work fine.

I'll give it a bit of a test this weekend, nothing serious, but comparing it to my other new toy, an AK Bowie.

What can I saw, Nasty. I like to learn from the best;) Bruise has your weedeater. You can feel free to carry off his daughter...or at least his flower.
