Got three Schrades last night at Wally World

Is it just a knife that opens without a liner lock or lockback? Got any pics or renderings of the mechanism?

A "slipjoint" is a pocketknife that has no locking mechanism, I.E. the blades just "slip" closed when pushed from the dull side of the blade. If you have Schrade Old-Timer that is an example of a "slipjoint".

And be sure to crink your slipjoint if it needs it. Otherwise there will be excessive wear on the blades as they rub, or they won't snap completely shut.

A little more info.
A slipjoint is a knife that does not have a locking mechanism. The blade joint slips past/under the backspring. The tang joint being shaped so that the pressure from the spring holds the blade in place. Usually having a "stop" at the open, 1/2 way and closed positions.

Old Timer and Uncle Henry are product lines made Schrade that contain slipjoints, linerlocks and lockbacks.
There are other locking mechanisms for knives. Geo Schrade invented a couple.
Can you name them?

Lever lock?

Don't you mean lever action :D? Thanks for all the info guys!

BTW, I am looking to buy one good lever action, I was looking at Marlin, heard that Henrys are junk, any brand name ideas, I'm looking for something short.

Some info.
Leverlock (springer)and flylock were by G. Schrade. He had another with the lock on the bolster (press button).
His son G. M. Schrade was credited with the push button (in the middle of the handle) and the pull ball.

Lever action. 34" Henry large loop carbine.

It looked cool in True Grit when John Wayne was swinging the rifle and shooting it, Arnie did it pretty well in T2 with that shotgun, but I've heard bad things about Henrys, that they're just wall pieces. I'm thinking of getting an el cheapo Marlin and using it for a camp gun. :D

Well, I'm happy with my Henry, like the one shown. It is not a Winchester 9422, but it was less than half the cost. I do think a Marlin is an excellent choice. I have an old Annie Oakley model.

I have never, ever attempted to swing cock it under my arm. I would probably shoot myself. But I like knowing I COULD.

The real reason for the large loop, for you non-gun nuts, is so the piece could be used by someone--like a trapper-- wearing heavy gloves could operate it.

I read an article a while back by the guy that provides the guns to a lot of studios and taught the actors how to trick handle them. Preparing for True Grit, it seems the Duke remembered a film he did back in the fifties where he used the large loop Model 92 in the spin-cock trick. (Mastered later by Chuck Conners) Well, first thing ol Duke spun the rifle and caught himself right between the eyes  . After he got up off the ground and recovered, the armorer chopped a few inches of the barrel for him. Looked pretty cool in the movie, eh? :D

Congratulations on a great find!
I have been looking for a little X-Timer, but so far all I have seen were well over what I would be willing to pay for one. Walmarts within a few hundred miles of me have been sold out of Schrades for a while now, and none were ever discounted. If you would be willing to help a Schradophile get one, send me an e-mail!

Email sent about the Xtimer!

Congratulations on becoming a gold member! I have some trouble from time to time with the e-mail account I had listed, and have not yet received your e-mail, so I change the listing to one more reliable.

OK, you got me there: what does "crink" mean?

Persistance is the name of the game on ebay. Even the more rare stuff comes around more than once. Contact me and I'll give you some possible sources to check.
