Hi Stomper -

Jeebus! Did that ever get delivered?

It looks like the address was not deliverable, but I can't understand why the package was not just returned to the originator.

Like anything else, the post office has been 90+ percent reliable for me, but it only takes one or two bad experiences to sully all the good experiences.

I have had a couple of recent deliveries of mail that was torn up in the machinery during sorting, and I receive a big envelope with my torn-up mail inside with a note saying that my mail was mangled.

All in all, I am impressed that the USPS and other delivery companies do so well with the complexity of the networks they use.

best regards -

Still not delivered, I`m sending out a replacement on Friday. It was a red micarta EDC. I can`t figure out why it did not just come back to me.

Hi Stomper -

I think I would be talking to the post office before it get's lost forever.....

We can't guess why this bird hasn't landed but as mqqn says, they can get mangled along the way. Good idea to put backup address sticker with sender and addressee name and addresses inside the package attached to the item. If the outer package gets damaged, the "dead letter office" can retrieve the information.

Contacted my local PO last week, they were working on it. I had it packed in a priority mail box from the PO, and had it taped up on all edges, sometimes that sticky part of the boxes is not to good.

Hi Esav -

That is great advice that I recall your posting before, and I have taken heed of that advice.

Thanks and best regards -

Guess what arrived here today, exactly one month from when it shipped! Of course I sent out the replacement knife yesterday.

one month to return a package that's undeliverable..huh. Good thing you had tracking on that or you probably would have never seen it again.

I got the "replacement" knife today and all I can say is that it was worth the wait. Feels great in hand, looks great, and the sheath is great as well.

It's my first JK knife but I hope it wont be my last.

I’m glad that it worked out for both of you. My girlfriend went to work for the post office last year. Here are a few observations I have made:
- several months after applying online and taking the exam she received an email giving the date and time for an interview but the catch was that if she didn't respond within a defined time they would no longer consider her, the lady was almost surprised that Pam showed for the interview and told her that they were having a lot of problems with emails
- after the interview she received another email at 4:30 pm on a Monday afternoon telling her she had an appointment for a physical, the only thing was that the physical was scheduled for 9:30 am the same day
- she drove 80 miles to another post office for her physical, the lady there handed Pam a questionnaire of several pages, she completed this and waited for a Dr. or Nurse to come in only to find out that the questions were the physical
- seven days after the "physical" she received an email telling her that she had to be fingerprinted within five days of the physical
- she was more nervous about the driving test than any other part because it included parallel parking, during the test the instructor asked her to pull into an empty parking lot and park
- at Christmas she had ordered something and had been tracking the package, it stayed at one post office for several days until she called them asking why, the package was delivered the next day

And they wonder why they are going broke! It used to be when I was a kid, the price of postage might go up every two or three years, now I think it goes up about three times a year. I don't know why this should surprise any of us, the Postal System is run by the U.S. Government. And you have all these people out here that want the U.S. Government to take over and run our healthcare. HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! We are in DEEP trouble America!

So you're saying someone else ran the postal service when you were a kid?

In 1970 when I was appointed, the US Post Office Department became the US Postal Service. No longer a cabinet department funded by the Treasury, it was now an independent operating authority that raised its own revenue from goods and services. We have not been run by the US government for 40 years.

We were tasked with getting off the Federal budget in 10 years; we did it in 5. You may wish you paid less for postage, but our rates and service have compared very well all these years to other major industrialized countries.

Your hysterical laughter is an insult to the three-quarters of a million employees who deliver the vast majority of the mail on time.

Esav,

I do not mean to speak in Tom's stead, yet, having met and spent time conversing with him, I feel comfortable in saying that I am certain he did not mean to disparage the fine service that you or any of the other dedicated USPS personnel have provided all of us. Rather, I took his comment to be more general in nature, relating to the common attitude held by many towards the administration of various services provided by the federal government. We all have some sort of issue relating to our system and I believe he was just expressing that idea.

On a personal note, I have actually been lucky to never have had a bad experience with the USPS and, thanks to the efforts of people like yourself, trust that will remain true.

Every large institution wether goverment or not has excess waste. It's just the nature of the beast. Take it...or take it. :D

I too prefer to send USPS. Seems to get there in half the time with half the cost and no damage when compared to fedex or ups.

I really should not complain, this is the first one with this many problems, although a few have made some unusual stops, like the one going to Connecticut that went to Nevada first! I should also say that thanks to a certain moderator many years ago, I learned the correct way to package a knife. :o
