AT-55 was suppose to be the next best steal after ATS-34, but I think something else came along-- VG-10 maybe, so ATS-55 was replaced.

As I recall, there were a couple of changes made. The molybdenum content was cut way back (it was there to provide high temperature properties not needed in a pocket knife) and cobalt was added. I also recall Sal posting that VG-10 and ATS-55 were field tested together, and VG-10 ended up edging out ATS-55 to become the new standard steel for the main line-up.
