Ok here it goes....
I have been in these walls for 10 years now
Ups...Downs...
Made my share of mistakes I own that
Made my share of many things in and out of these walls.
MADE MANY MANY very good friends in here that I would drop what Im doing and HELP...
Made many friends in here that I would send $1000 knife to no questions asked and he/she get me the $$ when we agreed...
Long story short
Had a situation the other day..
Was going to buy a blade.
TIME STAMP.....TIME STAMP...
I posted I would like it if no one had spoken for it and then immediately sent a PM..
I fully understand ..Other folks (and it has happened to me and many of us) have contacted seller via PM or email and showed interest
BUT THE THING that is discouraging
Time Stamp as of the past few months
WHAT I HAVE seen..
MEAN NOTHING anymore
MOSTLY to the new comers.
If you state TIME STAMP...
THEN FOLLOW thru and honor the time stamp..
IF YOU DONT as a seller
Then you need to be VERY VERY specific in your
selling post....
The other thing that often upsets me is the guy/gal that KNOWS BETTER and your TIME STAMP
overrides there interest in PMs or emails..And that person doesnt do the right thing and allow the TIME STAMP to get the prize.
I dont know I guess I have let the time stamp person get many blades in the past even though it was offered to me by the seller
WELL Because it was the RIGHT thing to do...
:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
Ok now Im done and I feel MORE BETTER.
Im sorry..I might be acting or reacting on the petty side..
BUT damn... If You posted ...Your posting TIME STAMP should be relevant...
OR am I just merely being petty>>>
Anyones imput?????????
Im quite certain many have had this situation before and or it has been discussed in these walls as well.
Thank you BF family for allowing me to be apart of this FANTASTIC COMMUNITY and allowing me to VENT..

Maybe they're including pm and email time stamps? If they say "first to post 'I'll take it" then I completely agree with you.

I am not a frequent buyer or seller, but one rule that seems obvious to me is:

First person posting in a thread "I'll take it" should win. PMs are for clarification and making counter offers. If I am in the middle of negotiating with a seller, and someone comes along with a no-excuses "I'll take it" posted openly in the thread then they should get it, and better luck to me next time.

There should never be any dispute about that. Now if there are three or four PM or e-mail conversations going on with the seller, and he chooses to take one of the offers, then I still feel that the buyer should go back to the open thread and post "Per our agreement in PMs (or e-mails), I'll take it" so as to time-stamp the agreement.

Is that the kind of feedback you were looking for?

Yes everyone..Mods may move this but yes..Thank you all

In my sales the first "I'll take it" time stamp gets the knife/whatever I'm selling. I had a guy PM me with questions on one of my last sales and he lost out to an "I'll take it" post. That's just an understood situation in my world. Maybe others aren't as familiar with that unwritten code...

If I were the Seller, you would be my number one buyer.

Heck, I would gift you any knife I own...............

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent You Nailed It !!!

I've had sellers make a sale to another buyer posting after my "I'll take it" post. Probably a buddy or something. Whatever. Time to return the favor and ignore right back. It makes it simple the next time there's a for sale thread posted by the same seller...I just can't see it. Problem solved.
Now to weed out all the flippers....

I totally agree with the time stamp statement...if someone posts it in their sales thread then they should honor it. I actually had a guy post "I'll take it" in a recent sales thread so I sent him my PP info...nothing, zero, nada. Then another person called "back up" and I told him I would honor the other person's post for 24 hours. Long story short, neither purchased the knife (first guy contacted me with some issue and the other person found a different knife (can't blame him at all)). Sorry for my side rant but I agree that if you put time stamp then honor that commitment.

I have noticed one issue - newbies typically post a "take it" w/o leaving any contact info., and then forget about it for two days (happens when you just signed up for four different knife, gear and gun sites in a day). Visitor messages are no use either, since the newbie does not know yet about looking at those. And then they wonder why the seller moved on to the backup. I have waited for two weeks for the buyer's "payday" and you can guess the outcome. In another case, the buyer genuinely forgot for 4 days, but did purchase when I reminded him via email through bladeforums.

Going to partially disagree with you Gizmoman as not every situation is quite so black and white to me. Spark has his explicit rules written out in the sticky and that is law - easy enough. As for the unspoken rules of the Exchange, an obvious one for example being no transaction is complete until both parties are satisfied, there is also the fact that sellers have the right to sell to whomever they choose. It is their knife for sale, they can price it the way they want and they can sell to who they want.

And for me, that outweighs any unwritten code of time stamps. I might not always like how that turns out for me as a buyer but I am glad I always have that choice as a seller. Members who send me ridiculous lowball offers, who are dishonest in their item descriptions, etc get added to my sh*t list. And guess what, they can win the time stamp race by a large margin but they are not getting anything from me. Glad that is my choice.

And I am human, sometimes I leave out a detail or two about an item I am selling. If buyer A reaches out to me by PM asking about that omitted information, and two minutes later buyer B comes along posting the first "I'll take it" in the thread, I will still give dibs to buyer A. I am not going to punish him for wanting clarity, especially when he was the first to express interest. Again, I am glad that is my choice.

Sometimes this works against me as the buyer. But ultimately, both parties should be pleased when they sign off on a deal. I have previously forced a sale based on the time stamp and thinking back on it now realize how silly it was to give the seller a hard time and get so worked up about just another knife. Not when we will get by with the 10, 50, 100 other knives in our collection.

Cheers.
